I've been telling people to just watch the trailer and pass on the movie. I was upset after watching the movie. There was so much potential, but the way the town was portrayed with 17 kids missing was frustratingly unrealistic. Also anytime a character asked any real inquisitive questions, they were responded to with a, "Relax, trust me bro.". Given how long the movie was and the amount of build up, I'm calling it a TEMU Hereditary. And I'm no fan of Hereditary.

The timespan within the movie is only about a month from when the kids go missing to when the when the kids are discovered. After the town hall incident, the parents are portrayed like they are coping with DEAD kids rather actively searching for missing kids. A town with 17 kids missing would look like a town under federal and local police occupation. The amount of national press hovering around town would dynamically change the atmosphere of the city and it should have been portrayed that way. That teacher would not be able to casually hit up a liquor store or a bar multiple times without a reporter's mic stuck in her face. It would be easy to overlook if the film was about 1-2 kids missing, but Seven-fukking-teen?

We have too many real life instances of both scenarios happening, small or large, for that to seem wrong. It is wrong, but not in the case of the plot but of how that is actually handled.
