What amaze me is the bow wow, twist and chuckies they drop all this bread on before they're 18 and elligible to be under contract. If any of those dudes coulda got hot by 17 and 11 months off that hand rubbing stimulus and broke out Birdman woulda had no legal recourse.
Lets not forget that pac was getting raped by deathrow as well..

And pac was a smart dude.

I think music industry people are just shady as fukk, always looking to screw people.

Lets think about it, how many rappers have came out and said they had slave like deals? How many rappers have actually had good deals?

Its the norm to get screwed.
a little different. Pac was basically at rock bottom and vulnerable. While aspiring artists be fcked up out here and hungry as well... They still got a free world advantage.

Mob style Whoa :birdman:

In October 2009, Birdman, Lil Wayne, Cash Money Records and various music distribution outlets were sued for copyright infringement by Thomas Marasciullo, who claims his voice was used without permission. Both rappers asked him to record some "Italian-styled spoken word recordings" in 2006. The lyrics were allegedly used on "Respect" and other tracks from the rappers' collaboration album Like Father, Like Son and Birdman's 5 * Stunna.

what's ASTOUNDING about that?? :why:

that's been a common practice of the music industry going back to it's inception during the early 20th century.........

look at Cadillac Records and you see how that Record Label boss was giving Muddy Waters and Little Walter ...cadillacs and clothes

but no royalties......

hell you had the D.O.C sign away his publishing for a damn chain that Eazy E bought for him...

and the case of Bone Thugs and Harmony who Eazy E's wife reportedly gave them usuage of the limo to ride around town and get lifted off of a half pound of weed..while she raped their revenue........

hell I can tell you personally of a dude who did a significant amount of writing for a southern artist.....and the label got his publishing simply by giving him a chevy impala that wasn't even in his name :dead: Truuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuue story.................

it's the same old capitalist relationship of the Pimp and Hoe described best in the movie "THE MACK"

"all byatches are the SAME..i keep em BROKE....I'll keep em looking pretty and all that...BUT NO DOUGH "

the difference is it's 2014

everyone in here can name 10 rappers off the top of the head, that got fukked for deals.... why are you still signing this paperwork with no lawyer

One thing I always see in these conversations is

"Lil Homie shoulda lawyered up."

GTFO

When you come in the game you have 0 leverage. When you get to the table there's 25,000 of you and one birdman rubbing his hands together.

You think you going go in that room with a contract drafted by a Manhattan firm and not leave out on your azz with a black eye? These youngins got no leverage. Maybe C3 Wayne did. But 12 year old "you'll shoot your eye out" Wayne sure as fukk didn't.

And your average 20-30 year old rapper trying to get on has NO leverage. So all this "They shoulda been smart talk" is bullshid. Cause if they woulda been smart they woulda been kicked the fucc out the room so that the dumbass eagerly waiting behind them could sign the contract.
and that's why you gain leverage before going in there... by doing your own damn work off top and make them come to you

it's not the 90s.. there's not 25l rappers WITH A MOVEMENT MAKING MONEY... yea there's 25k rappers... but labels give no fukk about rappers... they give a fukk about money makers who prove they can get hits, sell records, and sell out shows BEFORE they ever get a deal

and that's the leverage.. that if they wanna bs you, you'll take your ass over to such and such... it's called a bidding war... most new artists are in that situation now.. cause labels won't sign you for skills or a hot song.. they want a hot song with 4 million views and all the kids doing your dance first

these dudes are just dumb... you see them in interviews.. they are dumb... dumb and broke and someone dangles money and they go right for it... knowing they bout to get fukked.. but still like "it's all good, i'll make enough money then buy my way out/release enough albums to get out my deal"

by album 3 they are selling 30k copies and on the shelf and can't afford to buy themselves out, nor will the label put out the other 3 albums you owe them.... then it's time to take to twitter

:salute:I think folks is missing the part where these dudes like Tarver etc don't make moves financially to put themselves in a good situation to NOT get jerked....I don't know if Wayne is broke and I doubt it,but if he is he only put himself in a position to get jerked by the next person who brings him a contract if they know he's desperate....as long as he's been hot theres no excuse for him to not have enough money to where he should be hurting.

But these dudes come from the worst projects of New Orleans and folks really calling them dumb for signing:dahell:...die or let ya mama get shot in the projects trying to negotiate a better contract brehs:why:...desperation plays a huge part like you said.

And they really had no leverage coming in as Baby to my knowledge basically made all of them who they are....Wayne had all the leverage second time around so if he got a bad deal that's kind of him.

At this point theres no reason to not get hot independent first imo to where you can bring numbers to the labels and bend them over a table, traditionally if you look at the history of hiphop these are the people who don't get jerked with contracts. But artist have that fear of failure and you would hate to leave a big chunk of change on the table knowing your buzz could die any day now. And some of them are right, they buzz will die tomorrow and they should've took the deal the label was stupid to offer being caught up in the hype, and just been smart with the money:mjcry:

And lets stop talkin that "lawyer up" stuff as if lawyers and accountants don't have historys of being bigger snakes than Birdman....Do some of yall think any lawyer that most of these dudes can afford coming out the hood would not either be in over they heads dealing with a big labels lawyers?or worse yet be in cahoots with the label in hopes for future work since the lawyer thinks the kid he's representing is a future failure like most rappers.Ask all the nfl and nba players who lawyered up/agent'd up/accountant'd up and got ripped off how lawyering up worked out:mjlol:

Combat Jack who had history in the business as a lawyer admitted he signed a bad deal for Nore by "mistake":sas2:...shyt can go bad in a variety of ways in this shyt it seem like, who can u trust:mjcry:

And before you go feeling sorry for Juve,if he resigned chances are he's in a Tarver situation,or at least he aint working for nothing he cant deal with even if he know he aint getttin his full worth.

Yeah I touched on that a little bit, thats what I was saying about rappers not putting themselves in positions to not get jerked by people...Labels be knowing when some of these dudes aint well off financially and are in debt and like vultures they take advantage of it....some of these dudes are successful enough that even if they not getting what they OWED,they should still be well off enuff by the time the second contract come around, they not in that same desperate position they was on the first contract.

But that's every industry,i think it was Pinky the porno star who talked about how porno chicks be going around tellin everybody how they broke and who they owe money too,car bout to get repo'd....Suddenly your price just dropped becuz folks know you'll suck a dikk for 400$ instead of the 1500$ or however much they normally get paid for suckin dikk:pachaha:....I know you not supposed to take advice from ho's,but that shyt solid for anybody in any walk of life:sas1:.

that's just good business... buy low, sell high... oh you low in life... let me buy that... oh you want out that contract, i'll sell it to you for 5 times the price

i can see why some would take the deal.. i really do.. shyt i'd do it

but i for damn sure would at least know what i'm getting into... and use/save my money accordingly.. these dudes out here spending 90% of their income while still being 5 cars and 3 houses in debts at the same time... that tells me they have money and resources to be educated on these things.. they choose not to..

Jokes aside, I think this could be the last time in a long time we see a juggernaut record potentially collapse like this. CM was the last of a dying breed in that regard.

So much has changed in just the last 3 years, their formula wasn't going keep up with the changes.

Lets not forget that pac was getting raped by deathrow as well..

It was a given he knew that going into his Deathrow deal, and he didn't care. Why he was releasing so much material so fast right out of prison.Get bailed out, egt through his contract, and then GTFO.

Cant argue with that, and I do respect the Dames of the business who tried to school his nikkas on the nature of the business, and bad deals despite what people say about em....I like to think I would just save damn near everything I made too as an artist, being the life span of most rappers is 5 years or less:heh:...But saying that am I saying I would refuse to participate in the competitive nature of hiphop:patrice:? I would be the regular guy, wise spending responsible rapper?in a genre where image means a lot,but if you rent just to keep up the image you are a laughing stock:mjlol:...and if you are just "regular guy" you broke/boring and people don't wanna hear from you...I can see why rappers fall into the trap to a certain extent...that's my hiphop,no other genre like it:banderas:

But I feel you,to a certain level part of that shyt you buy for your image is a business expense the label apparently doesn't pay for:lolbron:..or they do pay for and make you pay for it later:why:...In that sense I guess it pays to be a conscious rapper and not have to deal with it,but historically does it pay as much being a conscious rapper:patrice:?
