Lil Wayne Doesn’t Think Anyone Is Trying To Be The Best Rapper Alive Anymore

Lil Wayne once called himself the “best rapper alive,” and with good reason. His output combined with the quality of his rhymes for a few years was unparalleled to this day. However, Lil Wayne doesn’t think anyone is even trying to reach that level of lyrical focus, let alone getting anywhere close to it. He explains this during his announcement of Dedication 6 interview with 2 Chainz and DJ Dramaon Shade 45.

Tunechi holds off from outright hating on any newer artists, instead saying, “they settle for what works. And it’s working. It works for them. That’s why you don’t hear me knocking them, you don’t hear me hating. I’m just a part of a different culture, a different wave of music. That wave was Jay Z, Nas, Biggie, at that time it was all about being the best.” The rapper continues by explaining, “nowadays they’re not trying to be the best rapper, or the best at anything. They’re just trying be them and to do what other people say is okay.”

A lot of this echoes things that Royce Da 5’9” observed in our interview with him. It’s really about what’s driving the artist internally, and Weezy is sure to remind everyone that even though, “this is where it’s at,” there is a reason people get more hyped for his new music than anyone else’s. He’s still reaching for that pinnacle, for himself.

if you think about it, lowkey sad

nikkaz dont want to the best anymore they just wanna be poppin

though i still like the music and new artists, lack of competition is detrimental, because nikkaz dont wanna elevate their game which in turn would elevate the culture:francis:

nikkaz make bangers but arent well rounded "artists" complete artists

same with lyrical miracle dull nikkaz who never switch it up two sides of the same coin

nikkaz not trying to improve
In all honesty this is true. I'd love a young thug/Lupe type hybrid. But would the fickle fans?

PEOPLE/FANS aren't well rounded, peep forums and comment sections. It's always "this a banger, fukk that lyrical shyt" or "this that real hip hop!" That shyt is corny as hell but the norm.

Nothing anyone can do about it, musical taste correlates with experience in life. :manny:
