I hear what you are saying but I must respectfully disagree. When it was a collaboration of r&b and rap which had been common for a long time it used to still be a clear distinction what you were doing or what the two artist were doing. Now it's literally the same lol.
That wasn't always the case though especially in those Motown and early days where you couldn't tell with a clear distinction which genre the song was apart of. The bolded in didn't particular start happening until later years.

Perhaps I just know I can't tell who is what now and that used to be very easy. For example Future is supposedly a rapper. :mjlol:

Is he not a rapper as that's what I always considered him as with R&B elements :mjlol:

It's not necessarily a bad thing though and I don't even believe that R&B is dead. It's just not viable commercially and financially compared to previous years without some sort of cross over appeal.

To me this is a crossover two distinctive sounds. That shyt we get now imo most rap and r&b has almost no difference.

These video essays always have some clickbait shyt to them. It's really about the state of male R&B specifically and why none of them are dominating the charts like in the past.

R&B is not dead and male R&B is not dead but ppl have to realize we are dealing with a consumer base who's rappers now sing and are the "heartthrobs"(no matter how hideous). Rappers have taken the lane R&B singers once had. Maybe it will cycle back but only time will tell.

First off, nobody trying to hear Chris brown in 2023 :mjlol:

His careers been done.

Secondly, the genre evolved, much like every other genre of music.

While I don’t consider frank and The Weeknd traditional rnb, these two are clearly at the top and have defined the genre. Saying it dead is weird, this ain’t the mid 2000s anymore

I'ma say it, talking specifically mainstream: too many non-blacks folks making the beats and/or too many black folks trying to cater to a non-black audiences.

Dancing is shamed.
Catering to a woman is shamed.
Being a "pretty boy" is shamed.

A lot of that shyt goes right into making a generational r&b star on top of a good voice.

Additionally, look at what people are doing with hip-hop: calling it "boring" to transform it into a variation of screamo rock-trap to be "innovative".

Pi'erre should produce and songwrite more R&B to be honest. I think dude gets the vibe right:

Everyone will just label it "simp music" though and that's exactly why the genre is hurting.

In other words:
