lets keep it 100 about pac. he would've fell off before the 2000s.

and lets keep it 100 about these 20+ year career rappers, surviving off of politics & backdoor pull. the idea of longevity has been a joke for about a decade now.
I agree with this 100%. He simply got too big. Back in 96 attaining that much success led to an inevitable backlash. Jay was able to survive going 5x Platinum in 98 because the game had already transformed by late 98.

yep. back then, people had a way of over-staying their welcome. if you dropped a 4 or 4 1/2, it was considered weak if your previous effort was a 5. nowadays, you got the same 10 rappers droppin 3s every other year, and theyre gonna continue doing it for another decade. and this is what passes off as longevity now.

and yea, '98 was a big transitional year too. problem is, most of the hip-hop community is so far removed from organics, that a lot of this talk now gets lost in translation, especially when it comes to the deceased.

people get mad at me on here when I say DMX would've knocked pac out the box in '98.

it happenes to the best of em tho.:manny:

Nobody stays on top forever and after he died neither did Pac,i think musically its safe to say AT LEAST he couldve had remained a gold selling artist.....Cube reemerged and got a platinum plaque with Laugh Now Cry Later....so no hes not human, thats what seperates the goats from the regulars:wow:...they continue dropping relevant albums and or singles:mjcry:...in the case of scarface he may not sell crazy but he continues to drop great material....so i dont neccesarily base longevity off of sales or being on "top" of the game.

And :mjlol: at dmx knocking pac off...cmon Wacky,he wouldve come off like a straight clown and biter instead of Pacs "replacement" upon Pacs death.....Pacs death opened up the lane for Ja Rule and DMX to be embraced in the first place....so only way he couldve knocked Pac off is by a head to head....you think west coast was gon ride with dmx over Pac?he wouldve had to fall off at unrealistic levels for that to happen.

Also @mobbinfms you cant compare Jay being succesful to Pac bein succesful and goin 5plat:comeon:....For one we would have to assume Pac would start acting like a safe nikka like most artist when they come up....can you imagine Pac acting like a safe nikka and shutting up:pachaha:?

Also hiphop loves the underdog, should we assume Pac would switch up and stop representing for the underdog:mjcry:? if he decided to go the 50cent route and stop representing the underdog and merley became a "bully" it may have come back to bite em.

main point theres more than one way to have longevity,im confident Pac couldve remained that on sum level....and even if he didnt we would still be talking about him and his music today....because not to many things more exciting than the fukkery Pac bougght has happened since, and none of his peers have outclassed him with the catalogue....even if you only count non posthumus:manny:

All the goats can make arguments in these 3 categorys u want to split it up into imo.

of course pac was gonna remain relevant. he was an actor. same with ice cube - who to the average post-93 rap fan, is more known for his movies. that "laugh now cry later" album went gold off of his name & brand loyalty, but the album itself is not relevant. and I didn't even know scarface was still making music.

you gotta remember, rap was still more of a sport back then. by '98, pac would be been winding down most likely. you really think he would've had something for a prime dmx? and no disrespect but it doesn't matter who the west would get behind. the west coast is basically secluded on the other side of the map. the only person they rode for in the past 19 years that made any traction is the game, and he had to get linked up to an east coast crew in order to make a dent.

and this whole idea that pac's death opened up the lane for dmx is false perception. aside from their look, theyre really not comparable. plus, dmx has a lot of fans that don't even like pac.

Laugh now cry later went plat and was talked about as a great comeback album from Cube, not to mention Cube killing it on features leading up to that album:banderas:....But not sure why it selling off his name is considered a bad thing, thats still a nod to his longevity as a rapper, word of mouth did great things for that album as well..

Pac might've been in jail until 98 if we want to get technical, perfect time to come out and take over the game as his lookalikes coming out the woodwork:sas1:....And you know better with that "aside from their look" thing:comeon:....For one musically they are very comparable as the tortured soul who makes street anthems that get you hype,as well as touches the soul of street nikkas, dark shyt:mjcry:....Even without you cant just say "aside from look" because Pacs image was iconic in hiphop at this point.....I remember reading hiphop magazines and them subtly drawing comparisons, bringing up DMX bald head and tattoos and how he made music for the streets on some "Remind you of anyone:youngsabo:"....Def Jam knew what they was doin when they had Ja Rule pop up from behind the bar as a skinny nikka with his shirt off and bandanna on:comeon:....I know you know how these labels work, and the way both were promoted wasn't just on no coincidence shyt, cut it out:pachaha:

Pacs death did that, and sure cats like DMX that don't like Pac,east coast nikkas:mjlol:...you said it yourself rap was like a sport, and it was a sport a bald headed tatted up nikka wouldn't be allowed to just enter the game without getting looked at funny in 98 if Pac still exist....counting Pac out by 98 is just :scust: for a number of reasons....Pac was going to just stop being must see tv in a years time:pachaha:?

and yes Scarface is still making incredible music:mjcry:

Goat artist Pac.

Goat MC K-Rino.

Goat career is a hard 1, depending what you define as a dope career,
LL had a great career... Jay Z could be another name, a few people could battle for that dependent on criteria.

Edit: KRS-One also someone I'd mention in terms of a great great career, classic songs and albums, decades in still making dope music. Longevity to me is important , plus if you take into account the movements he started and shyt he did and people he influenced I'd probably give it to KRS.

I think we really only need one category, because GOAT usually can make a case in all 3 of the categories your talking about,or at least they should:banderas:....And before anybody usues my own opinions against me,2pac is one exception, the man had a careers worth of music in a short period and success wise has managed to remain relevant and surpass the success of rappers who lived to have 20+ year careers:wow:

Word. That's why he's the GOAT, but you make excellent points about the mini GOATs Cube & Face and I'll toss in there the mini GOAT 3000. Sometimes I think these NY cats want extra GOATs so they can have one too.

:lupe: don't even ask me how

But also keeping it 100, Pac was one of the few rappers that got better and better with every release. Had he given us 2-3 more albums, who knows the level he would have been spitting at and we know his content is unassailable, it would have just been more evidence to his GOAT credentials.
