yep. back then, people had a way of over-staying their welcome. if you dropped a 4 or 4 1/2, it was considered weak if your previous effort was a 5. nowadays, you got the same 10 rappers droppin 3s every other year, and theyre gonna continue doing it for another decade. and this is what passes off as longevity now.

and yea, '98 was a big transitional year too. problem is, most of the hip-hop community is so far removed from organics, that a lot of this talk now gets lost in translation, especially when it comes to the deceased.

people get mad at me on here when I say DMX would've knocked pac out the box in '98.

it happenes to the best of em tho.
:manny:

:jbhmm:

Probably not the craziest thought. I do remember a lot of female pac fans gravitated to dmx when he started blowing. He kinda filled that lane for them. Lord knows why given his subject matter but he did. Same with some of pacs male fans but not quite as drastic as the females.

Just a perspective from an east coast breh

Laugh now cry later went plat and was talked about as a great comeback album from Cube, not to mention Cube killing it on features leading up to that album:banderas:....But not sure why it selling off his name is considered a bad thing, thats still a nod to his longevity as a rapper, word of mouth did great things for that album as well..

Pac might've been in jail until 98 if we want to get technical, perfect time to come out and take over the game as his lookalikes coming out the woodwork:sas1:....And you know better with that "aside from their look" thing:comeon:....For one musically they are very comparable as the tortured soul who makes street anthems that get you hype,as well as touches the soul of street nikkas, dark shyt:mjcry:....Even without you cant just say "aside from look" because Pacs image was iconic in hiphop at this point.....I remember reading hiphop magazines and them subtly drawing comparisons, bringing up DMX bald head and tattoos and how he made music for the streets on some "Remind you of anyone:youngsabo:"....Def Jam knew what they was doin when they had Ja Rule pop up from behind the bar as a skinny nikka with his shirt off and bandanna on:comeon:....I know you know how these labels work, and the way both were promoted wasn't just on no coincidence shyt, cut it out:pachaha:

Pacs death did that, and sure cats like DMX that don't like Pac,east coast nikkas:mjlol:...you said it yourself rap was like a sport, and it was a sport a bald headed tatted up nikka wouldn't be allowed to just enter the game without getting looked at funny in 98 if Pac still exist....counting Pac out by 98 is just :scust: for a number of reasons....Pac was going to just stop being must see tv in a years time:pachaha:?

and yes Scarface is still making incredible music:mjcry:

Nice breakdown. I made my last post before reading this :pachaha:

out of the 3 categories what would you consider the most important?

id say

artist is the most important criteria, then career, then mc.
