One of the cliches from the late 90's and 2000's used to be the 12 songs of murder and mayhem and then the last song a dedication to Mom/Girl/the kids.

Lol listening to the Chronic and 2001 Dre would give you 15 songs of pure ignorance, kill nikkas, fukk bytches and get high then he’d put on the message:mjlol:

01 still a classic though:whew:

There are plenty of new rappers who dont put out ignorant shyt but its easier to just follow that narrative. You dont have to dig deep either but mainstream media doesnt give them shine for obvious reasons
I hate when nikkas say shyt like this. Yes, we know not 100% of the artists aren't making ignorant music but the MAJORITY are. We should have to dig for ignorance and find the substance at the top...not the other way around. If we didn't accept this bullshyt music then the mainstream wouldn't either because it wouldn't sell

Jadakiss was a serial perpetrator of this as well, the whole late 90's punchline crew was notorious for this.

No, i need to.

Speaking of Wu, I thought C.R.E.A.M. was a great example of telling the sad truth, yet not really glorifying it.

Yes. I was just listening to C.R.E.A.M. the other day, another classic verse from deck :wow:

It's been twenty-two long hard years, I'm still strugglin'
Survival got me buggin', but I'm alive on arrival
I peep at the shape of the streets
And stay awake to the ways of the world 'cause shyt is deep
A man with a dream with plans to make C.R.E.A.M.
Which failed I went to jail at the age of 15
A young buck sellin' drugs and such who never had much
Trying to get a clutch at what I could not
The court played me short, now I face incarceration
Pacin' going upstate's my destination
Handcuffed in back of a bus, forty of us
Life as a shorty shouldn't be so rough
But as the world turns I learned life is hell
Living in the world no different from a cell
Everyday I escape from Jakes givin' chase, sellin' base
Smokin' bones in the staircase
Though I don't know why I chose to smoke sess
I guess that's the time when I'm not depressed
But I'm still depressed, and I ask what's it worth?
Ready to give up so I seek the Old Earth
Who explained working hard may help you maintain
To learn to overcome the heartaches and pain
We got stickup kids, corrupt cops, and crack rocks
And stray shots, all on the block that stays hot
Leave it up to me while I be living proof
To kick the truth to the young black youth
But shorty's running wild smokin' sess drinkin' beer
And ain't trying to hear what I'm kickin' in his ear
Neglected, for now, but yo, it gots to be accepted
That what? That life is hectic

T.I is speaking on the glorification of violence in his verse on “On top of the world” from his Paper Trail album. Claiming it is simply a reflection of their reality and not a glorification. With today’s standards he develops his standpoint in a lyrical way, yet in the end the principle stand, he’s using violence to sell records. When does reflection end and glorification start, and vice verse. What if you’re living the life you rap about because that’s all you know? For example these Chicago rappers. 16-17 years old with 3 kids and it’s a miracle if they see 20

Man I remember before I say that wait let me issue this statement
No way should reflection be mistaking for glorification
Now I remember so vivid me and my nikkas was living
Sub-standard condition still handling business
Still laughing and tripping still having the bytches
I'm rapping now reminiscing and goddamn it we made it
From trapping standing and pitching with rich we stand in the kitchen
Splitting it eight ways flip it in eight days
Thought that while in a room it was just the way to behave
Kept the weight and the yey for most the paper we made in all dimes
I ain't lying the pleasure was all mine
Have big work to move but we served the small time
I always out shined the nikkas with small minds
Who would of thought we would be arguably the greatest of all time
'Round here we developed such a sound down here
But duplicate it off the steel it can only be found here
Only listen to gs that other shyt I don't hear
shyt they so far in the rear how would I even care
I'm too busy being a player staring at nikkas careers
Been talk about it for years and now we finally here
