That was back when renting games was where it was at. I used to take the SNES cartridges apart
And switch the game chip that was inside one of my old games with the new rental.

I got away with that for awhile then Blockbuster ended up catching a little nikka and charged my ma's account for the new price of the games they caught me turning in one day that I had switched.

That ass whippin that night :whew:

I still have welts from it brehs :mjcry:

Games like Gran Turismo and NCAA Football cover you for months and even years, in gran turismo's case, so my parents didn't have to constantly buy new games for the systems (xbox/ps2)... of course when christmas rolled around we'd get something...

yeah.

But luckily, there was this pawn shop a few towns over that some kind of magical way had games for no more that 20 bucks..... sometimes before their actual release date.

I'm talking we had Marvel vs Capcom 2 and Soul Calibur at least 2 months before they actually came out.

I always had this theory that he had somebody stealing shipping boxes off the Walmart trucks and he was just turning a super quick profit.

Pretty well off for most of my life I actually remember. Hear stories of us being broke boys when I was a small child and shyt but pops came up quick.

He also gamed HARD so I pretty much had most of the dope shyt the day it came out because the nikka was anticipating that shyt himself. Never got everything I want or anything like that. But if there was a dope game coming out I knew I would most likely be getting it soon cause pops had zero patience lol

I remember when he moved away for another job for 2 years right when the N64 came out. He bought himself one and bought one for me and my sister so we could talk on the phone about Mario.

Love you pops :to:

Man it's crazy how nowadays I can buy the games I want but can't really play em all yet when I was younger it was hard to cop a $60+ game. My parents didn't get what games were so they thought once they bought a gaming console that was it.

They didn't know there were several different games. Before I had my first job I had to scrounge up money from saving up a few dollars here and there from allowance. Sometimes my brother would cop games that I wanted if he was interested.

I remember this nikka copping a Gamecube with Batman Vengeance instead of fukking Smash Bros :stopitslime: I enjoyed that title nonetheless but I was seriously wondering if my bro was :troll: me that day.

I wanted Viewtiful Joe for GC once and skipped a professional haircut to save $10 and instead got my hair cut by my brother in the crib. Had a nikka looking funny in the light with uneven hair length and a unclear hairline for a week. Wasn't nothing worse than coppin a game and that shyt was ass. A breh was getting got back then at Gamestop because I'd rely on trade in credits to get new games. :mjcry:
Emulators and burned games held a young breh down back then :wow:

Respectfully speaking, were/are your parents stupid or something? That's like thinking that 1nce you by a video player, then you all good cuz it's not like the thing needs video tapes to operate ya know....

Anywho, while we weren't outright broke, it was just me and my moms most of my youth growing up and she'd only get me a game on special occasions like birthday, Christmas and if I made honor roll in school. So from NES-SNES years, I'd only average about 3-4 games a year, with getting 2 games on Christmas, but only 1 for any other occasion. While I was smart enough, I was too lazy to make honor roll year round, as it was more like 1nce a school year, lol. Games were much more expensive in cartridge form too, so I know I'd almost never get more than 2 at any given time.

Come PSX years tho and the change to cheaper disc format, and my moms making more money then, on Christmas, I could usually get about 3-4 games and maybe 2 games for birthdays. So on average, I was getting about 4-6 games a year at least. At any rate, from NES thru PSX years, I played the bulk of my games moreso thru borrowing from friends/family and renting them and just got the games bought for me that I wanted most.

I didn't get a job until after high school, when the PS2 had just came out, so that was the first time I was actually buying games with my own money. At that point, I was buying games at least 1nce a month or so tho, plus this was Funcoland era, so trade-ins and 1-week returns ruled the day, so I was getting mad games then, though still pales in comparison to the last 10 years tho. PS3 era thru now, I've been getting like 3-4 games a month AT LEAST nearly, as there's always multitudes of sales, PSN+, coupons, steam deals, etc. so it's nothing. It surprises me that whiny ass would be gamers stay bytching and moaning about gaming being too much money these days. My main complaint is moreso time to actually play the games I have.

I'd get 3 games a year, one for my birthday (October), one for Christmas and one when I went to visit my dad in the summer.

It would usually be one of the DBZ games and the Smackdown vs Raw games and some random game I wanted like a GTA or a Mortal Kombat.

Nowadays I ain't that big of a gamer so 2K and COD can last me throughout the whole year until the next iteration comes out.

I was somewhat middle class growing up so my folks bought me all the systems from NES, SNES, Genesis, N64. I didn't get a whole lotta games though which was cool because I used to "borrow" them from my cousins and friends :lolbron:

I did manage to buy my PSX myself picking peaches one summer tho :whew:
