Brooklyn keeps on taking it.

Was the West Bronx ever as bad as South Bronx in the 80's and 90s? and if it was how did white folk deal with going to yankee stadium?

The west Bronx was just as bad 100%. It’s still the south Bronx. I can show you NYPD crime states from back then.

And I actually met one one white guy who told me back then he parked in the parking lot and that was it. Luckily the Major Deegan expressway is right there so they can hop on and go back to the city or go to Westchester etc.

I think you can say Yankee Stadium and that general area is both the West and South Bronx. Morris Heights and above I definitely hear associated more with the West Bronx, though

I'm sure the NYPD had a big presence on game days (it still does).

Today you could argue that the West Bronx is just as hood if not more hood than the South Bronx . I'm not sure which has worse crime stats but certain parts of the West Bronx have as much of a hood vibe as you can get in 2018 NYC. Especially Fordham

It’s all the same to me honestly. i Guess the south Bronx has more Mexicans than West Bronx and the west Bronx has more Africans.

West Bronx seems full blown out Dominican. The south Bronx still feels like PR people still run the area by total numbers.

I agree about demographics. To me both areas are much different due to architecture and topography. South Bronx also has way more NYCHA towers.

The West Bronx is so hilly that it has staircases between streets, and it is a mix of 5/6 story large prewar buildings and standalone houses, while South Bronx just seems like a ton of projects, suburban style rowhouses from the 80s and 90s, and some prewar walkup buildings that survived the 70s. The West Bronx looks like it was more upscale from its inception (as it was planned for the middle class and up as an escape from Manhattan)

Dominicans do dominate the West Bronx but there are a ton of Puerto Ricans and Mexicans too. I still see Puerto Rican flags all over the West Bronx. I wonder when that general area become more Dominican than Puerto Rican.

Many stayed away except on weekends. Even when the Yankees had their dynasty years they didn’t draw that well during the week because fans were scared to go (the Yankees were threatening to move to Jersey because of it).

The South Bronx is probably the most well known section of The Bronx, but I think he most "Bronx" part of the Bronx is the West Bronx (both areas are large and contain several neighborhoods, though).

But this area has so much energy and is so uniquely New York to me. It also where Hip Hop was born if you believe that Kool Herc created it. Home to Yankee Stadium as well. It is one of my favorite areas in New York and I could see myself living in some parts.

It is home to many Dominicans, Puerto Ricans, African-Americans, West Africans (especially Ghana), and Mexicans.

In the 20s and 30s, some really nice architecture was built there and most of it survives to this day (besides some buildings that were burned down in the 70s arson wave, though it wasn't hit nearly as bad as the South/Central Bronx). There are a lot of hills too, and some streets have staircases between them.

An interesting place overall, and there are bad Dominican chicks everywhere. There's a lot of energy in the summer especially.

To my knowledge, several coli posters live there

The Comfort Zone
The Bronx >>>

People try to shyt on the BX, but I love that it still has some of that old NY feel to it. My girl lives in the West Bronx near Webster and Gun Hill.

Webster and Gun HIll isn't exactly the "West Bronx" it is literally dab in the middle.

Has it gotten any better over there? My dad used to live over there and it was something when I'd go there to visit.
