Older rappers had melodies that set them apart. Snoop is a great example. So is Slick Rick.
I understand the whole "melody" thing cause if it was solely about bars then these battle rappers would be able to transition to music. Canibus would have had a better career.
I think rather than "melody" a batter way to put it is that rappers need personality. Of which all them Griselda dudes have. So the OG point is still moot

I understand what you're saying kinda. Benny has a flow structure that rarely changes. However I don't find it boring. I don't think that every single rapper has to be held to to a standard of what 20 years old are doing. Just like I dont think every 20 year old has to be held to the standard of rappers who came out before they were born.

I would've agreed up until 2019, but on Plugs I Met, Statue of Limitations, and the joints he's been featured on this year, Benny has grown beyond that very static flow structure that was on most of the joints on Butcher on Steroids, Stabbed & Shot, Tana Talk 3, etc.His verses on Chef Dreds, as well as Eastern Conference All Stars, 5 to 50, and Lucha Bros are all prime examples

West, Conway, and Mach all have melody in their raps. They all sing on hooks a fair amount. (I know Mach isn't in the crew anymore BTW but dude has hooks that sound like Mos Def crooning).
Benny is the only one that doesn't ever sing or do some falsetto.
But I'm a crate digger so I listen for production primarily and then unique voices and bars next.
