Loot Boxes for the most part aren't unlocking anything besides costume and gun skins. If you buying that, then that's cause you want to look fly in the digital world. shyt corny.

Siege has this now, but you don't have to buy it, and you're not missing out on anything from a gameplay standpoint if you don't get them, so...

:manny:

2K on the other hand... that's bullshyt
This.

The industry is still figuring out the sweet spot for loot boxes. Let's be honest this should be less of an offense than requiring players to pay an extra $50 just to play online.
I can agree on that

More gamer rage on shyt they don't have to buy lol. Its like the whole paid mods thing for Fallout and now skyrim. Even with skyrim being much older.. Its too many free mods to care. I haven't even downloaded the creation club update because IM NOT GOING TO USE IT. If these loot boxes only contain cosmetic items or things to speed up the flow...then that's on YOU for spending that money. I'd have a problem if they contained progression items that you need...that would be some douchebagetry. Basically its nothing to be upset over...........................................yet.

I agree with you winb, I've seen the effects of this first hand. I got a friend into Summoners War mobile a couple years ago, he has an addictive personality where he has to complete and be competitive. Within 6 months he'd spent $3K+ on micro-transactions. It got so bad he had to give his account away to another friend because of the impulse.

That's more of a personality type than a studio forcing his hand. Yes I know it can be tempting, with compulsion loops, and many other gambling baiting tactics, but ultimately its up to said person to stop or not begin in the first place. Is what these companies do shady? Of course, its so rat fink it makes me want to never buy a game from certain companies ever again...but this is the bad part/evil side of dlc. The good cannot exist without the bad.

That's the problem, today's; allowed innocuous behavior, is tomorrow's; rebellious overbearing snake oil salesman. That's how business tactics work, nudge a little, till you can push a lot later. This can be seen with the ridiculous DLC prices and or tactics of games that use "Seasons" as a way to get people to pay well over 70 dollars for a game. Its not the inclusion of Loot boxes that I detest, its the mindset of greed that sets in and expands to other areas, for most studios.

I agree.. I do believe however, that it was inevitable for that to start spiraling out of control. I fell for it once (Battlefield Hardline) and I stopped there. I combat the greed with not spending my money lol. The last game I purchased was Metro Last light Redux (anything ive gotten now was a gift) I'm not spending my money on these boring ass games with as you said.. overpriced DLC. This is why I don't complain about it..but thats just me. Its going to come to a point (imo) when this calms down BECAUSE its hurting their pockets.

Have you ever battled an addiction only to have it be inserted into something you like to do that has nothing to do with it?

These games have nothing to do with the gambling mechanics now being inserted into them.

Saying oh you don't have to buy it misses the point. Many of us aren't buying this stuff but the gambling addicts are. Like free to pay mobile a small portion of the player base spends a disproportionate amount of the money on the stuff.

Buying a pack of cards is just that. Buying a car racing game only to have it dangle gambling in front of you is far different.
Dude at my job spent nearly 16k in four years on mobile games like clash of clans and other dumb games like that
