7-8 around thanksgiving time with my grandma
Me too except it was my aunt. I started cutting veggies and chicken.then I was making rice for the gumbo. Then when she saw I was kinda nice with it she let me do my own thing. That was important bc she did thanksgiving alone. Having my raggedy pot roast up there made a lil youngin like me proud :to:. She's the reason I went to culinary school

8-11: i would help my mom with meals like I would make the pasta or the rice and veggies with her watching me.

12: i learned how to make simple stuff like spaghetti, lasagna (homemade), tacos, meatloaf, veggies, Mac and cheese (baked) cakes etc. This is when I started being in charge of dinner for like Wednesday & Thursday nights.

13/14: “harder” stuff like fried chicken, papusas, tamales, ice cream, gumbo, jambalaya, thanksgiving/Christmas/Easter dinner. Steaks etc me and my sisters would make the big meals when family came over because my mom either worked all day or was tired from work the day before.
I used to be in charge of dinner on Tuesday and Wednesdays. I got tired of tuna Tuesdays and pizza wedensdays so I took over. I was 11 or 12 I think

That kid got wrist work. Prime technique when he was mixing in the rice :wow:

Dude was nice with it.

But for me, I started cooking like when I was 5/6. First thing I remember how to cook was some fried eggs. Both of my parents cook a lot. My Dad is also a very good cook. He also knows how to cook and clean at the same time. Like he can make a meal for 20 people but you wouldn't even tell by looking at the kitchen.

I started really venturing out when I was like 8/9. This was the first cookbook I got. Borrowed it from the school library and damn near cooked every recipe in there.

From there, I pretty much cooked regularly up until high school. A wide array of dishes and cuisines as well (Nigerian, Chinese, Italian, Southern American, Japanese etc).

Paused a bit in high school because I went to boarding school and our food was prepped for us. But when I got out during holidays, I'd still cook. Continued to cook in college, especially once I got an apartment with a kitchen. My meals were more "meal prep" type meals, but on the weekends I'd experiment.

When I worked in Cambodia in my sophomore summer in college, I really started fine tuning my Asian-fusion touch.

Now that I'm working no lie, I've been cooking less and eating out more, but I actually just got back into the swing of things as it concerns cooking. I wanna cut back on the eating out but also, I really do enjoy cooking, it's therapeutic. Plus I'm nice with it :yeshrug:

It's still like college were I do more meal prep type foods and then on the weekends I'll head to the grocery store and pick out some ingredients to make a special meal. Right now I'm looking to diversify my flavor profiles and take more risks with my dishes. I also need to step up my baking game as well. I've also lost some touch with the more technical aspects of my cooking e.g. dicing an slicing ingredients uniformly, etc.

Maybe started around 6. Mom's used to make us all come in the kitchen & watch her cook. Later she made us help out with the little things then she made us do it ourselves.

I babysat so going on like 8-9 somewhere I was cooking for others. Breakfast, lunch & certain dinner stuff. Mom's taught us certain shyt so we used the stove less, I was nice with it though.

5-6. Grandma had me in the kitchen helping out a lot so I learned how to make scrambled eggs, pancakes, bacon, grits, oatmeal, etc. so I'd stop bugging her to make breakfast for me in the morning.

I miss my grandma.............:mjcry:
