this is really the bottom line. and we can do with an increase in taxes. we are a very low tax country by international standards.

the obstacles to this are mainly political and have little to do with affordability or logistics.

A Nordic person myself, I left my native Finland seven years ago and moved to the U.S.


bottom line: a nordic country is a single state that is 99% white nordic with a single history & culture that goes back hundreds of years

the USA is a federation of states with more demographic groups and wealth classes than any other place on earth

But wait, most Americans would say: Those policies work well because all Nordics share a sense of kinship and have fond feelings for each other. That might be nice if it were true, but it’s not, as anyone who has followed recent political debates about immigration or economic policy in Nordic countries understands. Nordics are not only just as selfish as everyone else on this earth but they can—and do—dislike many of their fellow citizens just as much as people with different political views dislike each other in other countries. As for homogeneity, Sweden already has a bigger share of foreign-born residents than the U.S. The reason Nordics stick with the system is because they can see that on the whole, they come out ahead—not just as a group, but as individuals.

First of all the "diversity" of the us doesn't come from foreigners, the " diversity" of the us comes from its very founding, and from the oppression, genocide and enslavement of native Americans and African Americans, the "diversity" of the us is in its constitution and in its cultural DNA

for Sweden to be "diverse" in the sense of the us it would have to have native born multiracial groups

And even with the foreign born you would have to subtract the ones that are European

And also today doesn't matter, you have to look at the way Sweden was 1 or 2 generations ago, post wwii, when the welfare states were being created (under the protection of the American military industrial complex, another issue he doesn't address)

So the fact that today some countries are having debates about immigration just means that traditionally they have been homogenized

So let's do this again, what is the percentage of non European, native born people who have been there for more than one generation or whose presence goes back to post wwii, then get back at me
