Getting results is not mutually exclusive with permanent, immediate solutions. The result we're seeing right now is that fact that Walter Scott's name, like countless others of the past year, are publicly known - that hasn't always been the case with murdered black bodies in America.

Black Twitter and social media activism has provided counter-hegemonic dialogue and an alternative to what white media has selectively shared with the masses. Criticisms of police enforcement and dialogues about the realities of police brutalities towards oppressed bodies has never been as widely discussed as it currently is; it has only been exclusive to black/coloured communities while we have been systemically silenced.

shyt is coming more and more to the forefront within our communities and outside of them, and you can thank Black Tumblr + Black Twitter & other forms of social media activism for producing that knowledge effectively. However, it'd be completely naive to think or assume that that will be the only channel of drastically changing the lived experiences of black bodies in America/the West.

These numbers and cases -- all the Trayvon's, Michael Browns and Scott's --- have always been the reality of black life in America, folks are just finally hearing about it on national and international channels. That is 100% a recent development.

Your mistaking awareness with progress. We haven't progressed at all. This year is looking to be a lot worse than last year. Where are the tangible results?

If the white sociologists, educated in white institutions, can't fix their society...
If the white economists, educated in white institutions, can't fix their economy...
If the white psychologists, educated in white institutions, can't fix their own state of minds...
etc...
Their is no reason to believe that Black academics, educated in white institutions, can bring about the necessary changes needed for Black people.

Nothing at the macro level but tons of little victories here or there. Nothing that will tumble capitalism, economic apartheid and fascism. The dialogue they create is a gate way for many Blacks to gain knowledge of self but that dialogue is rarely purposeful action.

Who knows? Maybe they will *inspire* those Blacks who actually liberate us.
