Deflection.

The Roman Empire was a goddess worshipping society, and the feminists today want to turn this into a goddess worshipping society. We saw how that turned out. Destroyed.

open corruption killed rome, but i'd like to think christianity played a part as well. emperor constantine converted to christianity in 312. rome split into east/west by 395. rome fell in 476. it lasted hundreds of years under the old gods, and less than 200 under christianity before barbarians pillaged rome. imagine if orestus had just paid his troops.... that one beef is when ancient history became the middle ages. crazy

Between 700-900 AD, the Arab invasions of Africa were nothing short of brutal. The Umayyad Caliphate and later the Abbasids weren't just after land; they wanted control over the gold, salt, and slave trade routes crossing the Sahara. In North Africa, the Arabs clashed hard with the Berbers. These battles weren't just fights; they were bloody slaughters. The Berbers put up a hell of a fight but were ultimately crushed, leading to Arab control over regions like Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, and Morocco. This control wasn't just about land; it was about capturing and trading humans.

The slave raids were horrific. They didn't just take prisoners; they obliterated communities, ripping people from their homes, often killing those who resisted. The captured men, women, and children faced unimaginable horrors. Men were forced into back-breaking labor or brutal military service, while women were often sold into sexual slavery or domestic servitude.

The Zanj Rebellion (869-883 AD) is a grim testament to the horrors faced by African slaves. Thousands of East African, used for grueling work in the salt marshes of southern Iraq, rose up against their Arab traffickers. This rebellion was fueled by the extreme cruelty and inhumane conditions they endured daily. It took the Abbasid Caliphate over a decade to crush the revolt, during which countless lives were lost.

This wasn't just an isolated event. The Arab slave trade was vast and systematic, stretching across the Islamic world from Africa to the Middle East and India. Slaves were transported in horrific conditions, with many dying from disease, starvation, or sheer brutality before even reaching their destinations. Women were often subjected to sexual violence, while men were worked to death or killed in combat.
By the time European powers arrived, the Arab-established slave trade was already a deeply entrenched and brutal system.
The groundwork laid by these early Arab traders made it easier for the transatlantic slave trade to expand, perpetuating centuries of exploitation and suffering for African peoples.

Mansa Musa was literally not supposed to be Sultan.

He was basically the king's accountant. For him to maneuver to being the defacto ruler over the Sultan's family while multiple smaller empires are vying for independence from Mali has to be some of the most fukkery level politics of all time.
