A short-reigning champion who serves to move the title indirectly from one wrestler to a third. They are usually used when the title is to be moved between two faces, to avoid requiring them to wrestle each other.

Unless you made up your own definition, CM Punk having the belt for over a year is not a transitional run. He beat Del Rio to get it, defended it against Cena 3 times, Ryback 3 times, Chris Jericho 2 times, Daniel Bryan 3 times, Kane, Dolph Ziggler, The Miz , The Rock, and everyone else who was a top superstar throughout that run except I think Randy Orton.

You cant call that a transitional run just because "it didn't feel important to you" or because of Cena's shadow. Cena's been doing that to everyone for years now. That'd mean everyone except Cena is a transitional champion which is silly when the belt is on one person's waist for 13+ months.

did I hurt your feelings regarding cm punk friend? i did not mean too. it was partly in jest, because there was a joke during that time about him being the longest reigning transitional champion of all time. however the last 4 months of his reign were just as a place to get the title to Rock once he returned.

Also, it was to see if Rock was ready to have a big time match at Wrestlemania by having him compete in all those crazy matches.

And we all know why he beat Austin for the title at Summerslam 1999.....
