Depends on what you want, where you're staying, who you with, and how much you wanna spend,

Current Hypebeasts - Bresca, Rooster and Owl, "Oyster,Oyster", Causa/Amazonia, Albi, Maydan - Whenever I'm in town, I'm trying to get into these joints. Maybe I need to get an American Express Black Card or something..

Cranes - Japanese/Spanish - Metro Center?/Gallery Place? - $$$$$ - DC has a ton of "expense" account type places, this is one of the better ones

Fiola Mare - Italian Seafood - $$$$

Daru - Indian - H. St NE - $$$ - hard to get in right now.
Rasika - Indian - either location - get the Spinach Appetizer - $$$ - easy

Oyamel/Jaleo/Zaytinya/China Chilcano - Mexico/Spain/Mediterranean/Peruvian - Penn Quarter/Gallery Place - all good spots, but not great. The Chef is a celeb though and you can really spend at his other places in the city.

Thip Kao - Laos Food - Columbia Heights - $$
Sura - Thai - Dupont Circle - $$
Maketto - "Asian" - H St. NE - Get the Fried Chicken.
Chang Chang - Chinese - Dupont Circle $$

&Pizza - local chain pizza - $ (there is better cheaper, but there's not better cheaper pizza than this)

If you want beer - Churchkey - 14th street

The DC tourist experience

- Ethiopian Food on U Street (or 9th street)
- 5 Guys - anywhere, the chain is from Northern Virginia
- Good Stuff Eatery - Spike (from Top Chef) burger joint
- Ben's Chili Bowl (also on U-Street) to get a half smoke with chili (I get mine with shredded cheese)
- Hawk and Dove - Maybe you'll see a political person (probably not, but that's the idea)
- Georgia Brown's (or some other expensive and sub par "southern")
- Neo Noir Cuisine - Bammy's, Cane, St. James, Bronze - Black/Southern/African/Caribbean food but more "refined". - But usually Black Women in abundance.

DC is a strangely weak food/restaurant city.
this is insane

anyway, theres a bunch of good black owned/run spots

DCity Smokehouse
Half Smoke (you prob know it from that clip of a brawl there that went viral)
Florida Ave Grill is black history. MLK ate there before the March
Matchbox Pizza
Salamander Hotel is black owned and coming out soon with a restaraunt headed by a breh from Top Chef
Anju is a dope Korean restaurant with a black head chef
Jackie is/was run by a Beard nominated chef breh. he also has some new joint with Filipino BBQ (I guess he's a PAAGer)

the sweet lobby
souk bakery

and then tons of just plain good spots,
try convivial or any of the farmers group. and of course get some Peruvian food

&Pizza - local chain pizza - $ (there is better cheaper, but there's not better cheaper pizza than this)
that's not local :mjlol:

it is...and even people from there who have lived elsewhere feel the same. DC is about networking, there's a bigger emphasis on atmosphere and drinks in DC vs food. of course there are some great places, but overall their food scene is weak including some of the spots you suggested :ld:
