That spot is cursed - it used to be Kwame's spot, and he bounced

But he had a MAJOR come up going to NYC.

hell no, i lived on H st for 1.5 yrs and lived in Philly for 2. Philly has one of the best food scenes around.
Philly’s food scene is lowkey the 2nd best on the East Coast. A lot of restauranteurs start in Philly to cut their teeth before heading up to NYC.

Baltimore also a really good scene as well.

Have you been to Paulie Gee's Pizza Place? I used to hit up his joint in NYC and saw that he opened one there.

I haven’t. For Pizza on the east coast its CT (New Haven), NYC then Philly for me.

I was gonna say The DMV area has beadoup black folk but 0 foodist spots like the Deep South. And Iw as taking notes for sate spots on this list but all I see users post is ethnic cuisine spots. Not that it'd a problem, but Imm try that DC smokehouse place cause I love BBQ

:dahell: DC has a better variety & has top ranked restaurants. Philly doesn’t have any of that unless you’re a cac that wants to eat sandwiches or second rank pizza:camby:
Philly has top ranked restaurants as well and a food scene is about the food as a whole, not a select few at the top. You're a fool or haven't been to Philly if you think it just has sandwiches and pizza. DC is mediocre as a food city, deal with it

I think DC does pretty good with "high end" Black Owned Places. Even white boys make some of the stuff (Bammy's for instance).

I have yet to go to Bronze, but every time I hit a "Congressional Black Caucus Clientele" type spot, it's not that "tasty".

To me, there's at least 3 different DC's living right next to each other (haven't touched the Indians/Asians out in the burbs, or Salvadorans who are everywhere, but their food just ain't inspire no one. Koreans used to have to open Sushi spots to make money, Salvadorans pretend to be Mexicans...)
  • The Black Transplant Version - We have a good # of high dollar places, but I have yet to go to one of them and want to return.
  • The White Transplant Version - Where the best food is usually "New American", "South East Asian", Asian Fusion, and Modern Latin American. Where spots can be packed every night, can't get a reservation, and then close under weird circumstances.
  • The Black Long Time Resident Version - AKA The Real DC aka Chocolate City - aka The Forgotten DC. - For me this was spots like
    • Mr Ps BBQ in the School Bus off of Rhode Island NE.
    • Chicken Wings and Mumbo Sauce.
    • That one brunch in Silver Spring that you could meet AKAs at.

Wings and drinks

Those drinks Wil fukk you up

I feel like "Real DC" has a ton of spots that I'll never know about, cause I don't know the right people.

Cause anyone can get on Eater and find the new hotness.

I was on a gig and mention I wanted a Pastrami Sandwich. DC gotta a couple of J-Delis and what not, but old schooler said to head NE and go to Deli City.

One of the best sandwiches I'd ever have. Inconvenient as hell, but damn good.

2 Amy's, essentially a neighborhood pizza joint (except that hood is rich AF) - some of the best pizza I've ever had. It doesn't get a lot of love online these days, but they put me on to Neapolitan style...

They're not tourists spots, but they're not really spots for transplants/transients either. They're not in "good" locations.
