I feel like "Real DC" has a ton of spots that I'll never know about, cause I don't know the right people.

Cause anyone can get on Eater and find the new hotness.

I was on a gig and mention I wanted a Pastrami Sandwich. DC gotta a couple of J-Delis and what not, but old schooler said to head NE and go to Deli City.

One of the best sandwiches I'd ever have. Inconvenient as hell, but damn good.

2 Amy's, essentially a neighborhood pizza joint (except that hood is rich AF) - some of the best pizza I've ever had. It doesn't get a lot of love online these days, but they put me on to Neapolitan style...

They're not tourists spots, but they're not really spots for transplants/transients either. They're not in "good" locations.

Two Amys iss good for pizza. Red rocks in Columbia Heights is pretty decent too.

I disagree that DC has bad food it has good food and even better in the suburbs but it just lacks good AND affordable options

But you are absolutely correct Philly is Lowkey one of the best cities for food
i didn't say it had bad food, i think it's mediocre, especially given it's stature. IMO, it's a tier 3 food city, on the east coast alone i'd put it behind NY, Philly, Baltimore and possibly Boston

I think DC does pretty good with "high end" Black Owned Places. Even white boys make some of the stuff (Bammy's for instance).

I have yet to go to Bronze, but every time I hit a "Congressional Black Caucus Clientele" type spot, it's not that "tasty".

To me, there's at least 3 different DC's living right next to each other (haven't touched the Indians/Asians out in the burbs, or Salvadorans who are everywhere, but their food just ain't inspire no one. Koreans used to have to open Sushi spots to make money, Salvadorans pretend to be Mexicans...)
  • The Black Transplant Version - We have a good # of high dollar places, but I have yet to go to one of them and want to return.
  • The White Transplant Version - Where the best food is usually "New American", "South East Asian", Asian Fusion, and Modern Latin American. Where spots can be packed every night, can't get a reservation, and then close under weird circumstances.
  • The Black Long Time Resident Version - AKA The Real DCaka Chocolate City - aka The Forgotten DC. - For me this was spots like
    • Mr Ps BBQ in the School Bus off of Rhode Island NE.
    • Chicken Wings and Mumbo Sauce.
    • That one brunch in Silver Spring that you could meet AKAs at.

Idk...I never met a soul that said.."Hey let's geaux to DC to get food." They say that about Louisiana, Texas, Georgia and NC...he'll Tennessee too.

Outside of chicken wings and mumbo sauce...which can we be honest? Folk just drinking mumbo sauce these days. It's GAF but you won't taste the wings or potatoes tho. Idgaf Imma still drench em down lol.

I do like the SE half smoke that I had back in 2005

If you go to DC and don't eat Ethiopian you've failed in every facet of life. Go to Dukem on U street.

The Red Hen is good Italian

and Jaleo if your pockets are like that.

There is vicious lemograss pho at Pho Viet on 14th street where I used to live by. Hole in the wall but damn good.

Howard China for chicken and mumbo... for the motherfukking culture.
Ho-Chi is legendary. Been going there since 05
