What's people opinion of Park on 14th in 2023?
Going there Saturday and the space looks nice on the site, remember this place being hyped by everybody like 10-15 yrs ago, is it still one of the best upscale black spots in DC?

Philly born. PG raised
My brother just moved out there near Highbridge. I'm gonna tell him about this joint. Any Jamaican or Trini spots?

Not that I know of in the immediate vicinity but it’s a couple Jamaican spots on door dash.

It’s a new spot close to high bridge called Blvck Cow(I think). I heard good things. Gotta go check it out.

Of course the ATL
I was in DC/MD/VA in April

We went to:

Old Ebbets Grill
Brine du Pont
Bethesda Crab House in Bethesda, MD
Jerry’s Crab House in Bowie, MD

I’d say Brine was the best

I'm from where Petey come from
IMO, there aren't enough of them.

In a way, the lack of an ABUNDANCE of Mom and Pop/Sit Down type spots in SE, NE - there's probably some economic and sociological stories to be told.

Cause Harlem and Atlanta have those things.

Baltimore? DC? Not as much as their black numbers would suggest.
We used too :mjcry:

I will say this to I’m blue in the face :dame:and dead and gone. The old Levi’s when it was Black owned on Indian Head Hwy was fuccin 🔥 . They had nothing but big mommas and meemaw’s cooking up crack in there :noah:

Same goes for the old original Henry’s on U Street, when Mr. Henry himself ran shop. They have an offshoot in Upper Marlboro called Rolling Rib that is vicious :wow:and is ran by the son. The same for Johnny Boys Rib (Like Levi’s it’s Asian owned now):what:

Mrs. K’s on 301 in Upper Marlboro is :ohlawd: too!

Now back, back in the day Miles Long, Original Wings-n-Things (Home of the Mumbo sauce) and Eddie Leonard’s was pure crack, at least that’s what my mom says :to:

I tend to agree that DC is a vibe City and not a foodie city. If DC really tried become a true foodie city, combined with vibe it would be a problem :lupe:

Busboys & Poets straight? I plan on going there before a show at the Lincoln Theatre

Between Farragut and Dupont - Improv - Used to work over here. The lunch move was Bub and Pop's, if you like deli sandwiches.
  • Before the show - Swahili Village - about a block and half down M St. Some of the folks on this thread like it. I don't care for it, but East Africa flavors (and clientele); Closer to Dupont Circle station is Chang Chang - which is good Chinese. They had a Americanized Menu and a Real Deal Ho Lee Field Chinese menu when I went.
  • After the Show - &Pizza and Surfside Tacos will probably be open.
  • A better idea - pick a place that you actually want to go to, and uber over to the improv when you're finished.
U St and 14th - B&P - the food is edible. It's not a spot I would go out of my way for. It's basically a stepped up black owned but a menu designed for everyone neighborhood restaurant.

Look at this menu - Lunch & Dinner Menu | Busboys and Poets

Nothing here is gonna set your palate on fire. Busboys and Poets, Ben's Chili Bowl, Georgia Browns - these are places that get a lot of good press.

Options
  • Walk in the other direction and hit Ooh's and Aah's if you want Southern. (don't look at the prices though)
  • A Block before B&P is St. James if you want "Caribbean" - emphasis on the quotes.
  • If you have time (and money) - get a reservation at Maydan (Mediterranean)
  • If you have money - try the Izakaya Seki (Japanese)
  • After the show - &Pizza, Roaming Rooster - and these spots are really drunk food options. RR got a huge boost after some chick bigged them up on Twitter during the Popeye's Chicken Craze. I used to work over L'Enfant where they had their food truck among 15 other food trucks, 3 others doing their best Chick Fil A impression. The chicken sando was just aight. There was no line prior to her tweet. Now they got 3-4 brick and mortar locations...
Both of these areas is high $ per square foot, so they end up having to charge high prices, or have boring menus to please everyone.

If this makes me a snob, pass me my Top Hat and Monocle.

I haven't been there in a decade.

But that's the spot that the Congressional Black Caucus will go to when they're in town.

If you really tryna get CHOSE by some Congressional Rep, that's the spot to be.
