As a kid, this is basically how I imagined New York.

You go to any to any corner and brehs are either having a rap battle or doing chin ups on the walk signs. Everyday in the Summer, you wake up or walk out/into a block party... it was so lit :mjcry:
I went for the first and only time so far in 2018 still kinda thinking like this in terms of "The City That Never Sleeps". Stayed in the Gotham hotel not too far from Times Square, that shyt was live as hell in the day. Caught Talib Kweli perform at The Blue Note and swung by Times Square again after, just to see how it looked and there was NO ONE but me :dwillhuh:

I thought the trains/stations would still be active too but it was quiet the shyt had me on guard :patrice:

I swear the average MFer in NYC is nicer than the average mfer in the Midwest and its not even close.

:jbhmm:and I been deep in Brooklyn and the Bronx
That was another thing, I kept expecting people to be rude as hell but they were all nice. Helping when they could tell I'm lost, etc.

Low key a let down tho, I was hoping for somebody to get all pissy like in the movies :mjcry:

I didn't see a SINGLE rat either :why: but it was winter time.

Rats are mainly in Manhattan (at night), downtown Brooklyn (at night) and South Bronx (at night).

That people are ā€œrudeā€.

That the city ā€œnever sleepsā€ā€¦you ain’t getting that sandwich after Ock or Papi cleans the grill and slicer typically around 11:30 :mjlol:

That winters are rough nothing here compares to cities in the rust belt and Midwest. Winters are relatively mild and it typically only snows a few times.

That we have dirty tap water quite the opposite our tap water is some of the best in the world. DC tap water taste awful.

That everyone loves the Knicks and is rabid about them…average dude is a fair weather casual. Knicks are huge but New Yorkers are much more loyal to the baseball and football teams at least in my opinion.

That the entire city has good public transit. There are parts of the city where you are far from the subway can be on a local bus for like a half hour before you get to the nearest subway station, and then it's another half hour on top of that to get to Midtown. And there's a good chance you will have to stand up for a good portion of your ride. It's a realistic possibility that you would have to stand up on a crowded city bus that's stuck in traffic :francis:

Local city buses have a negative stigma nationwide, depending on where you live and where you are going if you don't have a car in NYC you gonna have to ride a local city bus.

NYC has the best transit system in the U.S because most major U.S cities don't bother to provide good transit service.

Hollis and Rosedale in Queens for example you probably need a car to run errands.

Where I lived in Canarsie, McDonalds was the ONLY store that stayed open 24/7. Most of the neighborhood pretty much shuts down after a certain time.

I'm an early 90s baby and while the NBA/basketball was the most popular sport with my peers, I can't recall one actual Knicks fan :mjlol: Other NBA teams got discussed but never the Knicks. In all fairness the Knicks WAS a bad team for most of the 2000s :manny:

Yall need to start telling people about the way people will hold the entire train car hostage with some sob story. Down South they have the manners to at least do it person to person. This muhfukka stood in front of all us like he was about to give some business presentation talmbout

"Hello, my name is Bill. For the past 3 weeks I've xyz... anything you can offer to help is appreciated"-- then walked thru the whole car tryna shake us down :what:

"Relatively mild" compared to those places you mentioned, yes, but still very cold (for the most part).

Yeah, NYC has never been the snowiest city (and climate change has caused us to get less snow over the last few years). However, when I was growing up, things like blizzards used to happen somewhat frequently. It wasn't abnormal for the occasional 12+ inches of snow. Nowadays, blizzards rarely happen.
