What're the best tradesman skills to learn? And how does one go about learning them? I want to pick up a trade in the next 5 years or so, the ones I'm most interested in are welding and electricianing. I don't want to learn them necessarily just to get a job in those fields, but because I think they're good, extremely useful skills to have. And with fewer and fewer people going into trades, it really gives you an edge over everyone else. I know that you can get a portion of your training at a technical school. But I heard that in order to get an apprenticeship, you need to have an "in" with someone working in the trade.

Depends on what u want to do
Hvac plumbing welding offer good salaries if u don't mind working with your hands
I'm working on getting my cdl I don't particularly want to work with my hands
Look up trade schools and community or tech schools in your area

hard to say best...the trades ive worked in have all paid well, but were difficult physically

i assumed electrical was easier because it requires more knowledge but I did it for 2 years and found it just as difficult. hard climbing around in attics or under homes and pulling wire and bending conduit

plumbing is for people who want back and knee problems when they are older, just thinking about it makes my back hurt :heh:

if i could do it over i would just go straight construction like framing. its always the same shyt just you and your nail gun all day. actually i think i would just end up getting a contractors license and then you can make serious money

What do plumbers do? When I think of plumbing I think of fixing clog toilets, explain the kind of plumbing that makes 6 figures

What trade(s) require the shortest amount of time to become certified at?It seems like all the trades I've read about require a 4-5 year apprenticeship, working hours that make it essentially a full-time job.
