What are the official rules to playing a pick-up game of 21?

I swear growing up depending on where you played the rules were different. From my understanding each bucket is 2 points and free throws are 1 point. If you have 20 and miss the free throw you go back to 13. Some folks say you can't air ball free throws. There are no calls...so I guess dudes can double dribble, travel. etc. If you get tied up the first person to say "take" gets the ball...then dudes would swear they said it first smh. Free throws are at the 3pt line instead of the normal free throw line too.

I want to see if these rules are universal. Speak on it.

we played that you had to shoot the ball from where u caught it... and free throws are worth 1 point... and rebounded buckets u make are worth one point... but im from canada so take it for what its worth.

sometimes if we had a all day wed play putbacks take u back to 0 and if u above 13 putback would take u back to 13

Also, if you didn't have at least 7 when the first person got 13, you're out.

We played FT line when we were young, but once in our teens it was always a 3pt shoop

So basically ya'll scrubs can't shoot I wish somebody would line up at the free throw line for a free throw


We always played 33 (unless there's too many people we'd shorten it to 21)

-every field goal 2 points + 1 point for free throw (from three point line)..3 made free throws then take it up top
-fouls based on the honor code. you dont call out your own foul but if someone gets you its up to them to own up and say "his ball up top"
-travels/double dribbles again based on the honor code. if you know you then you give ball up to whoever was checkin you
-miss a free throw for the win then you go back to 25.
-anything that hits the rim you take it back. Airballs are fair game but nobody respects you for taking the easy one

If you travel, whoever called it first got ball up top - same with obvious flagrant fouls.
If you get tied up, y'all are tied up until y'all ain't tied up no mo lol. Step you rip game up.
We shot FTs at the damn FT line!
And you had to clear it if you rebounded a brick.

I doubt you can hit a 24 shot consistently. Me and my nikkas games are good. I got a couple of homies who have even balled overseas.
