At the beginning you say if you're playing 1's and 2's or 2's and 3's.

Free throws shot from the top of the 3 and worth 1. First one made worth 2. After 3 in a row you check ball.

You miss the ft at 20, you go back to 13. No extra long final ft or any of that dumb shyt :rudy:

Take it back on possession

Only obvious shyt is called, hard fouls, etc. But its basically the honor system, no one's out there there trying to blatantly travel or shyt like that.

We used to play w/ tips as kids but that shyt takes forever as grown men. Used to be if you got tipped out you could still hang around under the rim and catch an airball to get back in the game lol

:heh: at guys shooting freethrows from the freethrow line in 21. You'd get your ball taken and sent home out here trying that.

Where in the feeznuck are y'all niccas from where y'all didn't shoot FTs from the line SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED for that??

That would lightweight explain how come pro niccas can't shoot 'em like they used to...that f'reals sounds like some young nicca ish.

I've lived in NY, FL & now GA and the differences weren't major. I mean you could play 21 on two separate courts in the same park and there would be subtle differences depending on how the majority of the players on the court played. If I got the first bucket I'd always ask where should I shoot the FT from, sometimes it was the FT line, sometimes it was the 3pt line. Usually played with no calls except for the blatant shyt and usually just say "my ball", if they knew they fouled you then take it out, if not then they shot FT's for the ball or just beefed for about 10 mins, that was mostly in Orlando, FL, they loved to bytch. But if you called "my ball" more than once you lost all cred and got ignored. Always had to take the ball back everywhere, all shots were 2 pt's except for ft's (1 pt). As for reaching 21 some courts you had to get 21 then win the game by hitting 3, if you missed go back to 11 or 13. Some courts you had to get 20 then shoot the 3. If you airballed you went back to 0. shyt, some courts, once they saw a nikka dunk they'd rule out dunks and putbacks :stopitslime:

Some small differences I've seen on the court:
Orlando, FL dudes love to bytch and moan and only white dudes get offended by the word "nikka".
Stockbridge, GA it dont matter how many cats are on the court to play 21, no rule changes and dudes won't stop joining and everybody think they can shoot.
NY - Nobody cares about shooting a jumper until it's the absolute last resort! Cats really play d and dudes just wanna cross the one defending em and attack the basket and if you call a foul? :what:

I was with you 'til you got here. Da hell??

If you travel, whoever called it first got ball up top - same with obvious flagrant fouls.
If you get tied up, y'all are tied up until y'all ain't tied up no mo lol. Step you rip game up.
We shot FTs at the damn FT line!
And you had to clear it if you rebounded a brick.
only difference is we cleared everything

it differs from source to source, but each source consistently mentions it being a playground game featuring of a combination of baskets and free throws until one party reaches "21" points and is declared the winner

1. Shoot for ball to see who plays first.
a. If first attempt is made, other player(s) will have to make the first attempt themselves or they don't get ball first. Process of elimination until one player receives the ball first.
2. No out of bounce
3. A made basket (2 pts.) sends the player to the free throw line and attempts a first three throw, if made; attempts another, if made; attempts a third and if makes all three receives ball back.
4. If you overlap 21 points your score goes back to 11.
5. If someone tips your ball in your score goes back to 11 (if above 11); your score goes to zero (if below 11).
6. No three point shots, no matter how far back you are making the basket.

1. FTs from the top of the key for 2 pts (not necessarily 3 pt depending on the court) OR from the line - 1 pt
2. All baskets are 2 pts
3. Travels and double dribbles got called. Most of the time fouls didn't especially if someone was sitting on 19
4. If you got to 19 or 20 either through a made basket or free throw then your next free throw was from the top of the key
5. You had to clear bricks past the 3 pt line and airballs out of the key
6. Goon mode whenever someone hit 18. You had to earn them last 3 points.

In the ocean where the sharks be at
Sometimes violations went to whoever called it or sometimes we would throw it off glass.

Less than 5 people, gotta take it back if a shot hits something.

FTs from the 3 pt line.

If you have 19 and score, you still gotta make the FT to win. But if I have 19 and score that's game. :pachaha:

No bricks, no slams, no throwaways:gladbron:

my youth:blessed::to:

Dam we use to play that shyt all fukkin day

So basically ya'll scrubs can't shoot :beli: I wish somebody would line up at the free throw line for a free throw

We always played 33 (unless there's too many people we'd shorten it to 21)

-every field goal 2 points + 1 point for free throw (from three point line)..3 made free throws then take it up top
-fouls based on the honor code. you dont call out your own foul but if someone gets you its up to them to own up and say "his ball up top"
-travels/double dribbles again based on the honor code. if you know you  then you give ball up to whoever was checkin you
-miss a free throw for the win then you go back to 25.
-anything that hits the rim you take it back. Airballs are fair game but nobody respects you for taking the easy one :mjpls:

you from DMV? cause this is exactly how we played. And we played 33 no matter what though, never heard of 21 til this thread. Also occasionally we'd play taps as well

I'm from Detroit and I'm black as hell and his version is the closest to what we always played :manny: where the hell you from :beli:
I have seen different variations in other areas. In DC they play 33 but pretty much the same rules. Once I was in Nashville and they played some shyt called 31 or some shyt and basically you just kept shooting from anywhere until you missed :wtf:

If you played in a high school gym like most peeps you weren't shooting a legit NBA three unless you took like three steps back.. And a great NBA shooter only shoots around 40 percent from three. So im not about to believe that you and your homies were nailing them like that. But either way the way ya'll played is not the usual way that 21 is played.
Yeah, in an actual game, playing against NBA defense..

A great NBA shooter would be shooting 90% and shyt playing 21 or 33 against the average cat

Crazy how shyt is different around the country. Here, it was as follows:

-Baskets are normal (2's and 3's)...sometimes we played to played 11 or 15, it was 1's and 2's
-Free Throws are from the top of the key, worth 1...make 3 and you check it up, unless 3rd was 20, then you shoot for the win...miss at 20, you go back to 15
-all misses had to be cleared
-No tips unless there were a gang of folks. Anything could be tipped...tips worth 3...tipped with points sends you to zero...tipped at zero you're out. When playing tips, you have to hit the rim shooting FT's...no intentional bricks to avoid getting tipped.
-Calls were honor system. If you blatantly traveled/doubled, you drop the ball and it was up for grabs. If you don't call your own fouls (shyt you committed), then it it wasn't called. Calling a foul with the ball in your hand? :stopitslime: And yeah, it got fun when someone was at 19...shyt basically turned into a royal rumble
