What are the official rules to playing a pick-up game of 21?

I swear growing up depending on where you played the rules were different. From my understanding each bucket is 2 points and free throws are 1 point. If you have 20 and miss the free throw you go back to 13. Some folks say you can't air ball free throws. There are no calls...so I guess dudes can double dribble, travel. etc. If you get tied up the first person to say "take" gets the ball...then dudes would swear they said it first smh. Free throws are at the 3pt line instead of the normal free throw line too.

I want to see if these rules are universal. Speak on it.

Now to take the racial element out of it, yeah your rules are about right. But we liked playing 2's and 3's.
Some places they played 1pters and 2pters behind the 3pt line. Free throw is at the top of the key, but if a young kid was playing with us we'd let them shoot from the free throw line
Take-backs on rim. At first it was behind the free throw line, as adults we took it back to the 3pt line
Had to hit Rim on 20.... First free throw MADE is worth 2pts
If you got tied up We'd fly down the paint like MJ changing directions in mid air son son

When I was younger, I remember calling ball if you was fouled. But once I hit Jr.High fouls wasn't really called like that. You'd just take the hit and be like

-FG's are 2 points.

-you go to the line, every made FT is 1 point.

-if you hit 3 ft's in a row, the ball is checked and play resumes.

- once you have 21 you break the ice with a made FT. If you miss the FT you go back to 19.

- If you successfully break the ice, you attempt a 3pter to win the game. If you miss you go back to 15. Airball = 0 pts.

everything inside the 3 point line is a 1. 3s are 2s. free throws are at the 3 from straight ahead u get 3 if u make all 3 u gotta take the ball out(start from triple threat position behind the 3 but theres defense on u) u cant travel or double dribble unless u not playin for money.if u at the free throw with 20 n u miss u go down to 15. and if somebody get to 15 before u get 6 u locked out until next game

21 all ways tip out and if u got 20 and missed you dropped.

I've played in many different places and rules definitely switched up. Most places you shoot 3s after every basket worth 1 each. If you hit 20 you had to hit from half court. And if you miss on 20 back to 13.

Fouls was you call when you foul somebody.

I've played some games with tips. Where if you under 13 back to zero and over back to 13 and after three you gone. Oh and if you tipped on 0 you out. I've played with 1s and 2s or 2s and 3s. All shots had to be taken back no matter if it hits rim or not.

I think playing so much 21 was what helped me learn to shoot. When you get to playing with 6 or more people that outside shot bails you out big time in 21.

you take 30 wide open 3 point shots... like all star game style from all around the 3 line... i bet anything you miss more than half of em... i swear to god niccas get a little streaky from behind the arc and think theyre jeff hornacek or some shet.
