Great summary.

It's a huge difference. My cousin was in the Army in the 89-94 era. From what he told me it was a really different vibe, SNCOs were all Vietnam era cats who were in their retirement phase. That is when putting hands on someone was the way to rectify the problem. But there were Base Clubs that were actually packed, even when I came in pre 9/11. We would have picnics in C-school and they would roll a keg out. Alot of disputes and grievances were settled face to face / without Capt Mast or other punishment.

20 years ago was different for sure for all branches before 9/11 (off some years, but you get it). in that garrison life vs wartime is way different. With war you get any and every warm body that can at least follow orders. You end up getting all types of folks.

All military services accept people who are borderline mentally and kids with no financial literacy. Offer more than some bank getting you to sign up for Direct Deposit and a 10 minute Power Point in Reception.

The military is a clean slate for starting/changing your life. It's just being knowledgeable before going in, getting a good mentor, and not getting in trouble. Not really difficult, just have to put ego and pride aside in CERTAIN situations. Is it a "hill to die on " type of thing.

Air Force. Aim high and miss.

Navy. "Never Again Volunteer Yourself"

Marines. "Muscles Are Required Intelligence Not Essential "

Army. What the fyck.
In the Navy I was taught Army: Aren't Really Marines Yet
We got sent to Anchorage for a TDY training for a couple of weeks. I remember it being some joint base.
They put is in the Army barracks and that shyt looked like trap houses. Mad old and outdated. We were joking that we had better sleeping quarters on the boat.
But the Chair Force? Talk all the shyt you want, they always, ALWAYS had the best accommodations and the baddest broads. Legit 10/10 dimes in the civvi and military world
Not like our 2/10s (2 in the real world, 10 in the Navy)
Marines were the most savage. When I was in A School in Pensacola they were on base too and I went to a couple of their telly parties
Nothing but ham faced Floribama country broads, just hideous overweight swamp creatures
Marines were busy knocking them down, no shame in their game.
Looking back I don't blame them. Marine broads look tougher than dykes.

Definitely try to get him in to a MOS (job) that will require him to have a Top Secret Clearance. That will give him so many option and allow him to jump into fields easier if he chooses to.

Navy - Harlem (players, love stunting, don't mind lying) Navy has the best looking black women by far because of the recruiters.

Army - Brownsville Brooklyn (Rough, not much tact, brutes for most part) Navy guys take all the Army women.

Air Force - White Plains, NY ( on a few blacks from the hood there. Beautiful sweet women of all races and they love non-thug Black men.

Almost went to captains mast while I was going to postal school at fort Jackson. Had a half naked marine in my car , luckily we finished before they Knocked on my car windows. Worked with alot of army folks when I was contracting at camp arifjan . Never really came across too many air force people when I was in. Navy got a lot of bad chicks if you get on a carrier. I've seen chiefs lose their career lusting over some undesignated sailor

I worked Navy civilian for 12 years. Traveled the world TDY 60% to Norfolk, San Diego, Mayport, Everett, Pearl, Rota, Yokosuka, Sasebo, FMS Korea, Japan, & Australia. I’d work on their ships during their construction period, doing IT stuff. It was a definitely a unique work environment, spending so much time on the ships as an outsider. I sometimes had to go out to sea and sleep in berthing :scust:so glad I never have to smell that again.

One thing I noticed over my career, certain rates that I worked with seemed to always be a certain race. OPS GM and cooks usually black, ET, FC, maybe GM usually white, Logistics usually Filipino.

With each ship, I had to deal with a different set of personalities and cultures. When I first started, some of the chiefs would give me hard time…not sure if it was because I looked so young or that I’m black.

I also worked on Coast Guard ships. They seemed to have it much easier than the Navy.

I've never met anyone who was in the Coast Guard complain about shyt past going to their Basic/AIT in Massachusetts. My homegirl did 22 yrs in and she only PCS'd twice. Was stationed in JAX, FL...then PCS'd to NOLA...then finished it up in Miami

Space Force because it's new and the way those jobs will be situated, you stand to make a shyt TON of $$ once you get out. Them going back and forth between having it in Colorado or on Redstone is hilarious. They would be best served on RSA since you have Marshall Flight Center already there and a large, educated population in a state that will let them do w/e tf they want there. I can only think of 3 places you could even PCS to from wherever the HQ is at (Pentagon, Colorado, Alabama)

^^ Yep, I'm USAF but luckily have been 'space adjacent' for a good chuck of my career... Something to think about re: space force is you'll be working with or in very close proximity to defense contractors and industry partners, lots of opportunities to grease the wheels for jobs on separation... Just take Colorado Springs.. Peterson & Schriever house SPACECOM, which is right next door to NORTHCOM/NORAD, Raytheon, Lockheed, Boos Allen, and so on. I know several people who have separated on a Friday and rolled back into work Monday with a contractor badge in civvies while waiting to be picked up for a GS (of which there are plenty of openings).
