The clowns saying Biggie oughta be slapped and given a history lesson
Back when the Source awards was the pinnacle of hip hop, Big was winning lyricist and album of the year on the same damn night. He was running the game. Ready To Die was one of the most acclaimed albums of that era as a whole, not just rap either. And he was doing this in maybe the most stacked year ever. He won best new artist too. You don't do shyt like that against that kind competition there was in the mid 90s if you ain't at a GOAT level
You can point to Big's body of work against him but from an ability point of view, critics and contemporaries were already holding him to a status of one of the greatest ever and how he was redefining East Coast rap with what he and Rae/Ghost started
As far as storytelling, his voice/mic presence, violence, flow/cadence, sex, painting pictures, dark humor, wit, imagery, cinematic, or just on pure talent at rapping, nikkas was already putting him in rare air at the time. He is the most complete rapper ever
