I should put ur simple minded ass on the ignore list
I know it’s really hard for you break from the paradigms instilled by the overlords of corporate marketing but if you were of sound mind you would be up for a debate. We can go album by album if you’d like, if you’d like to forfeit my offer to debate I understand. Jay Z really broke it down best when he was discussing the lack of consistency in Nas on “Takeover”, unfortunately his catalog suffers from the same lack consistency. It’s a shame they’ve been in the position that they’ve been in for well over 20 years longer than a fallen peer and have yet to even arguably surpassed him. They certainly do not have the catalog to compete with Tupac. Even Biggie, despite not nearly having enough of a catalog, still has about the same amount of classic material as these two who have had 20 years to surpass him but have not even made a viable argument for doing so

Nas wrote from his window

Jay Z launched a PR campaign

Mac Dre spurred a cultural movement

This is quantifiable, you’re not on my level. You just don’t know Mac Dre, leave it at that until you decide to acclimate yourself with the subjects you speak on. It will do wonders for your credibility and possibly help you lose that WOAT tag under your username

To say that someone is top 20 in an art form you appreciate and than turn around and call them underrated is only going to call into question your standard. We can go line by line for your top 10 to show that Mac Dre’s legacy surpasses some of those guys and we’ll start with E40. Tupac’s spot there is solidified, but it’s not a relevant comparison because they are not comparable acts - it’d be like putting up best drama against best comedy. Sopranos Vs Seinfeld. Mac Dre’s a gamespitter, Tupac is a songwriter. He was not from the Bay Area, nor did he stay there. His influence and impact greatly surpassed regions so it’s hard to say he is representative of the Bay Area. Take MC Hammer out for the same reasons but in a different respect. You could rank Too Short above Mac Dre, they are contemporaries of a comparable segment of the genre. The Jacka did not surpass Mac Dre, nor has a Jacka verse exceeded Mac Dre’s during any collaboration. The Jacka could fairly be put neck and neck with J. Stalin. JT the Bigga Figga is not musically relevant.

Furthermore, you are missing context. Mac Dre was bigger inside of the Bay Area E-40 was bigger outside of the Bay Area. In recent years not only has E-40 stolen aspects Mac Dre’s style but he has also ran with Mac Dre’s business model in regard to his own career. Mac Dre is stylistically more appealing than E-40 (who is a great but arguably not everyone’s cup of tea).

From 2002-2004, Mac Dre spurred the movement and carried it to the gates of the promise land. E-40 piggy backed off of that when the labels went to him to be the face of hyphy movement, they had already done business with him prior and it only made sense to continue the investment in an act they’ve already worked with than to try to build up someone else after Mac Dre’s death

Even if he was not as known nationally before his death as he was while he was alive, that in no way is a viable argument to say that he is overrated. You only highlight that he was, and still is, underrated.

No one gave a shyt about him till after he died and that’s a fact.
No it’s not a fact. And your standard for what you consider a “Fact” is troubling

Mac Dre was the leader of a movement and he had the stature to support double album releases all while being hailed as a legend by his peers and by those on radio. He was referred to as a legend in his presence, on features and by radio DJs. His catalog speaks for itself.

xxxtenacion has to be the most blatant example.

not sure how far we're allowed to go back into time.

EDIT: I see most of the thread didn't care about the timeline restrictions.

Extensions is the obvious answer. I mean people were saying his music was dope in hindsight talking about he’s better than they thought. That’s the definition of overrated in death to me. The kid was on his way, he wasn’t there yet.

I mean the kid was big but he wasn't a timeless superstar like pac.

He was a very popular ny artist that outsold everybody..his sales were spread out nationally. You cant pull what he pulled with home court backing only

These nikkas always expose their age or ignorance when they say shyt like that. Like Big was only moving units on the east coast :heh:

It's why I can't take most of the Booth seriously
