Just for the record I like tech, but I have trouble with it being central in everyday life.

I disagree with some of your points, but only to a minor degree, for example one's phone being the the point of contact is true, but I believe the expectations have changed because almost all communications go through the phone and it is always on you so there isn't really a built in reason for one to miss or respond late to any calls/texts/emails/chats/etc. Also, the banking thing is more an observation with the ease in which people can spend their money. The fewer obstacles there are to do something, the more likely one is to do it. It's why Amazon/Uber and all these other companies make transactions so seamless, to make it seem like you're almost not even spending money imo.

I agree that tech has created useful tools to efficiently, and in some cases optimally, execute tasks. It also allows us to stay in touch with people in ways that might've been difficult or near impossible in the past. And of course it is possible to make more informed decisions because there is a wealth of information out there. These are all ways that technology should be used.

My problem comes with the immersion of of people into technology because it becomes the default way to do things. So opting out to an extent is pointless since everyone is online. In addition, people are empowered to stay within their interests so it is easy to find yourself either always in agreement or disagreement. You only have to face what you want to face. Anonymity is also an issue because one's entertainment can be another's torture. Trolling and insults are so common on the internet that it begs the question is this the true face of humanity? Image manipulation and media downloading (im a pirate btw) have devalued the things they offer and make them into objects. All of these things are symptoms of a world conquered by computers.
A lot of your points don't really feel like problems but like minor nitpicks. None of which can be classified as a con in my opinion. I mean, people don't want to be social, well they didn't want to be social before the advent of computers.

People want to only stay within their interests? Welcome to Fox News, the most popular news network in history where majority of the viewers want to stay in their particular bubble. Technology empowered this kind of mindset? :jbhmm: Nah, we've been doing it.

Technology didn't make the world more fukked up. It just allowed us to see how fukked up the world has always been; in fact, I'd say that technology is empowered us to stop the bullshyt when there was a time that we didn't even knew the bullshyt existed.

How much time do people spend online now vs before? What do algorithms recommend to you after listening to music or watching videos, more of the same? If you don't want to interact with anyone isn't it easier to do so by escaping to the virtual world? Is a parent going to complain about their kids being on computers or will they be happy to have them occupied as they thenselves browse the internet. It's normalized breh.

These things may come off as nitpicks but they're just what I've observed comparing now to the past.

How much time do people spend online now vs before?

:dwillhuh: internet wasn't laid uniformly. every year, people around the country is getting high speed internet now. People still use AOL because that's all they got. So yeah, people spend more time online now than ever and next year, more than this year.

What do algorithms recommend to you after listening to music or watching videos, more of the same?

These videos and music you listen to, especially on free sites, want to cater to you because if you stick around and watch these ads, they get paid. They will play whatever you want to keep you there. Same with netflix recommended, they want to keep you around so they'll show more of the same. Not for any other reason other than financial gain.

If you don't want to interact with anyone isn't it easier to do so by escaping to the virtual world?

absolutely.

Is a parent going to complain about their kids being on computers or will they be happy to have them occupied as they thenselves browse the internet. It's normalized breh.

Parents used to sit their kids (still do this) in front of the TV and were happy they were occupied. It's what I keep harping in this thread. Internet didn't do shyt but make things easier and more convenient. And the most popular things on the net are things that make what we do normally like watching TV easier.

Parents can't blame technology that their kids are mindless zombies when they put them in front of the TV or netflix or the internet and smile because they're occupied.
