Isn't that the point of relationships? You discuss things and if they're logical you can reason with their beliefs. I've had conversations where I'm close with someone white and helped them understand my point of view, why shouldn't they be able to do the same? I mean there is obviously a difference between blindly defending someone just because you're in a relationship with them and coming to understand a view they may hold. In my experience with a interracial relationship I opened her eyes to most things but she still provided a few gems on how I view humanity. If you're in a IR its unlikely that you're partner is going to be a bigoted person, so why wouldn't I consider their outlook when developing mine?
