1. I was specifically saying that for the Celtics because we have the demonstrated habit of building up big leads until early/mid 4th quarter and then we squander it. If we had one or two great players, we would likely be able to keep the leads we habitually squander in the 4th quarter. I don't think my statement could be a considered a blanket statement for other teams that are struggling. Case in point, the 76ers. Even if you added another great player, I doubt they'd be anything more than a playoffs team (for a variety of reasons).Same for Minnesota. Same for Utah. Hence why I spcifically mentioned the Cs.

2. I think some players will sign here, especially if we keep Rondo. Despite the cold weather, the Celtics' championship history and its organization makes Boston an attractive destination for FAs. But I doubt it'll even get to that point because Ainge has too many expiring contracts and draft picks over the next couple of years to not be able to pull off a major trade, assuming we get an ideal offer.

What marquee free agent has ever signed in Boston?

Bill Walton is probably the biggest free agent signing we've had in the last 30 years and he was past his prime with a bad back.

Exactly. The really is not that bad team. Just need better defense and a go to guy. I thing FA will be very interesting for the Celtics.

If the Cs keep Rondo and add a playoff-tested, bonafide go-to-guy and a defensive anchor, we're making moves.

I tell you: Rudy Gay and Marc Gasol.

Those two + Rondo solve our problems.

What marquee free agent has ever signed in Boston?

In all of Boston's history or recently?

Kevin Love ALMOST signed with the Cs until LeBron pulled his bullsh*t move to the Cavs.

Plus, the Celtics does most of its big-moves through trades.

Rudy Gay already signed an extension with Sacramento. We don't have a shot at signing Marc Gasol, that's just a pipedream.

No he didn't. It never even came close to happening. Sure Danny Ainge at least tried to get him but there was never a deal imminent nor were we ever at any point the frontrunners to get him. The Wolves didn't particularly care for what the Celtics had to offer.

Doesn't mean anything in terms of FA. If anything, it makes Gay more valuable for trade purposes. The team that trades for him is guaranteed to have Rudy for at least 2 years.

Yes, it did. He and his agent met with Celtics executives, they hung out at Fenway Park, and Love met up with Rondo in Boston during this offseason. This was all after a Celtics executive promised "fireworks" in FA for the Celtics that summer. He was close but ultimately he didn't sign.

The Kings are trying to win now. They don't have a motive to trade Gay, especially when he's been great for them.

For one, Love was never a free agent and I'm pretty sure players that are under contract with a team can't meet with other teams executives unless they get permission from their team. Love got permission to speak with the Cavs, he never got permission to speak with the Celtics. Regardless of what most Celtic fans want to believe, a Love trade to Boston was never imminent and we never came close to getting him. When he popped up in Boston for a few days, fans just started to go crazy and start speculating shyt.

Well he did come there for that reason. You denying that? Glen Taylor didn't want the Wolves to appear to get fleeced by the C's like in that Garnett trade. They weren't taking any package from the Celtics.

He went to Boston for a few days. That doesn't mean he was going there to meet with the Celtics to try and get a trade done, especially when nothing factual suggests that. It's still to this day been nothing but fan speculation.

Or we didn't have an attractive trade package? What were we going to offer? Smart (Who they'd have no need for with Rubio), Olynyk/Sully & and some 1st rounders?

N*gga, then why the F*CK was he in Boston this past offseason with his agent? Everything I posted before about him being in Boston is documented fact. There are pictures online. For you to deny that a Love trade to the Cs wasn't on the cards is intellectually disingenuous at best and just retarded at worst.

The T'Wolves most likely OK'd him to go to Boston and talk with reps while they were anticipating/sorting Boston's best trade offers.

I'm sorry that I've proven that, contrary to your preconceived notions, Love was quite interested in a trade to Boston.

Yeah the last package you mentioned was it. I'm not denying it was anything compared to the Cavs package.

Love being at a Red Sox game =/= He was discussing a trade with the Celtics

No, it's not a fact that Love came to Boston try to discuss a trade with the Celtics. Once again, that is not allowed unless he got permission from the Wolves. If the Wolves gave him permission to speak with the Celtics, it would've been confirmed just like it was when he met with the Cavs.

Did Danny Ainge want Love? Yes. Would Love have had a problem playing in Boston? Probably not. Was there ever a deal imminent or a deal on the table that the Wolves were even close to agreeing to? No.

TBH Love fits more on the Cs than the Cavs. They don't need him, they need a rim protector.

Yeah but we really need a go to scorer. Love fits that, he is being wasted on the Cavs.

Sure we'd get our #1 scorer but defense has been a much bigger problem for us than offense. We're 6th in offensive efficiency but 27th in defensive efficiency. We've given up 108 points a night so far and that's not counting tonight where we gave up 118. You're not really gonna have any success if you can't defend and Love is one of the worst defensive players in the league.
