long island get all the negatives of being near NYC with none of the benefits of actually being in the boros or city. traffic, shytty commutes, high taxes, cost of living, housing market. gotta be one of the worst places to live in the country

absolutely. buffalo is more poppin than long island. especially now, buffalo is low key on an upswing right now with some of the most undervalued housing in the country. they're giving the shyt away like Detroit.

move from buffalo to Li? you're gonna be spending mad money and time going into the city or the boros to work, go out, etc... unless you're moving for a specific job that you need to be in LI for and you're getting handsomly compensated.

dont do it. the weather isnt even really that different. unless you're moving to the city it sounds like a backwards or lateral at best move

The city is a pain in the ass to be honest. The subway taking you all over Brooklyn and Manhattan is nice, and it’s great being a 4 block walk to a train that runs straight to Yankee stadium, but rent is sky high for a small place that doesn’t even have a driveway or designated parking. Last time I talked to a realtor in 2017, they said Brooklyn is currently the most unaffordable housing market in the country. Lots of places don’t have parking lots. All the traffic sends your car insurance through the roof too. If you want to be somewhere in the city limits, look for a suburban area near the Nassau border, but not too close to a train line so they don’t jack the rates up on rent or mortgage. I think valley stream has a decent size Caribbean community if you’re looking for that. Some of that area I think falls within the queens border and its relatively close to the railroad so you can drive there and take the train around.

A 2300 square foot house in great neck with 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom was listed for $890,000 a few weeks ago . I know people working the legislator office in mineola who handle various paperwork. They took a phone call from someone last year who was getting hit with $29,000 in property taxes in Massapequa for one calendar year

I would rather just not drive if I lived in Brooklyn. I think that's a big appeal for many people that you can not drive, not have to pay for gas/repairs/insurance, have a bunch of restaurants and bars in walking distsnce, etc.

NYC is one of the only American cities that is purely urban in that sense (like a European city). Though, a lot of of the outer boroughs was actually developed with cars in mind.

I'm in the suffolk county area and this shyt feels like I'm down south. A bunch of weirdos out here and its annoying walking into places with people looking like because your the only black person around.

The 1st month of me living here I pull up to where I live and i'm pulling out the keys to open the door, A car pulls up and a CAC with his family rolls down his windows and the guy cac says

I’m in contract to sell my current house in Nassau county so I’m all too familiar w those astronomical figures you posted. But to be honest people know what they’re getting into moving to these areas. The public school systems in some of these towns are ranked in top of the state and a lot of the times entire country year after year. Some public high schools here perform better than private schools they compete against for rankings. The numbers are stupid but you get what you pay for. If you have 2,3, 4 kids insane property taxes are cheaper than sending said kids to private school for the same education. And before the tax laws re write offs for mortgage interest and property taxes changed this past year there was actually a greater financial incentive to own in these areas

Yeah but it's not like I used Green Acres as an example. There are definitely a lot of black, Hispanic, and to a lesser extent Asian people living within a quick drive or bus ride to Roosevelt Field.

Great neck, manhasset, oyster bay,Roslyn, port Jefferson, sands point, garden city, old west bury, and cedar hurst...might have some of the best homes in nyc.....any other part of li..why would you want to live there...but then again you need a arm and a leg to live in these places
