wow, im baffled by most responses in here.. the answer is that isiah doesn't do much better than chris paul, if anything at all. They arent really close as basketball players, cp3 is clearly better.

CP3 is a better scorer, shooter, much more efficient offensively, better defensively, better passer, turns the ball over less and a better rebounder. these are the things measured by numbers. Objectively, he's better at these things.

Isiah has the be the most overrated player in NBA history. I'm not sure he cracks my top 10 PG list. I rank Magic, CP3, Nash, Robertson, Payton, Kidd, Stockton all clearly ahead of him. And as soon as they have the longevity to justify it; Westbrook and Curry will surpass him too, easily.

lol.

People don't remember early 80s zeke leading the league in assist while averaging 22-23 points a game.

He changed his game in his later 20s to accommodate joe dumars, agguirre, microwave, dantley etc.. He didn't need to score 20-10 a night to win.

He changed his game for the good of the team. No reason to believe zeke couldn't get you 23-12 like he did in the early 80s

The finals game he sprained his ankle against the Lakers says it all about Isiah. Prob one of the most underrated legends in any sport imo
Add in the 16 points in like 90 seconds against the Knicks to send the game into overtime. That to me along with Sleepy Floyd are probably the two most slept on playoff moments in history.

I give Isiah the advantage in that Isiah showed a better ability to switch up his game for what his team needed at given times. Isiah's Pistons went head up against the Celtics and Lakers while they were both close to the height of their prime with no other superstars. Him and Magic are still my favorite all star game performers too.

That's my main.issue with Paul and why isiah called him out. He plays like a robot and never changes his style no matter the defense. Its just pick pick pick, dribble dribble dribble. Either he wont or he can't. Either way he isnt Isaiah.

It's never as simple as skill. Chris Paul is possibly (probably even?), at the base, more skilled than Isiah Thomas. But at the end of the day, what does it matter? It's what you do with that skill.

I can't imagine Chris Paul scoring 24 points in a quarter in an NBA playoff game, much less a Finals game, much less on a bum ankle.

The gap btwn Zeke and CP3 shows how big of a difference maker mental aspect of the game is.
"Will to win", "Killer Instinct" and similar words might sound cliche and sometimes aren't even taken seriously in discussions but at the elite level, that's what separates legendary players from star players.

CP3 is a great fukking player and future HOF, but he never put fear in his opponents hearts.
Never had that oh shyt he's about to go super sayian moment.

Never watched Isiah but from what I've read he was a great leader and really brought out the best in his teammates, he also had some inspirational moments like playing that finals game with a hurt ankle and not just playing, flat out dominating. He wasn't as ball-dominant as CP3 was even when he was racking up 14 assists (CP3's USG+AST% is right at 70 for his entire career, Isiah only surpassed that once and that was the year he averaged 14 apg). I'm more impressed with what he did in the late 80s though, especially in the playoffs (28/5/7 on 63TS% in the 90 finals ). He did a better job balancing his scoring and playmaking those years, something CP3 needs to work on and has improved on in recent years.

CP3's great, but he's got some work to do to get to Isiah's level.

This thread is disrespectful to Isiah.

Outside of Kobe & Lebron who are head and shoulders better than all these NBA players over the last 10 years these new players should not be compared to the NBA legends from the 80's & 90's who were superior players.

Chris Paul is not even better than Westbrook or Curry so comparing him to Isiah is a joke.

Players went so much harder back then and the defense was way tougher.

Curry scores more PPG than Zeke on almost 10% higher TS.

That's like the difference between Prime Lebron and Rudy Gay / Paul George. Or like Kevin Durant against like...Allen Iverson.

Entirely different planet.

To answer your question, Isiah doesn't do much better than CP3. CP3 is a much better shooter, defender, and his court vision is one of the best in the game right now.

With that being said though, Isiah shyts on CP3 in every single way possible. Thomas gets it the fukk done. As another poster noted, he struck fear into his opposition. he can go off at a moment's notice with zero regard for human safety, he had to tone it down though when the Bad Boys assembled though, but do not let that fool you.

Isiah Thomas is easily in my top 5 for best PGs of all time.

And neg pending for the WOAT that said Nash is above Thomas, clearly you were born in maybe mid 90s :snoop:
