Alot of people on here complain about the rap game ALL DAY.
Do ya have any solutions tho? :c00nj:
first things first.
THE MUSIC.
---
Producers: Stop copying off of one another. its time be creative, even if that means your music sucks when you are creative and can only make your own kind of music. you win some you lose some but it produces the best creative work in the end, and even you can luck up on a few gems.
- stop trying to make hits. just make good music and let the hit choose itself.
- similar to the first thing i said. Old head producers, stop trying to bring back soulful hiphop and your version of boom bap. sure i wouldnt mind 1 or 2 joints like that on an album every now and then. but i do not need an entire album sounding like it was produced in the 90's. and i'm an Old head.
youngins, its time to really start experimenting with your sounds to find that NEW sound, to push us forward. just remember make sure its still HIPHOP. hiphop is in the drums(drum loop). if you're using a disco drum loop and you dont change a thing about it. its now disco that someone is rapping over, not hiphop. remember that.
RAPPERS: lets star off with having a Topic that has to do with YOu personally or someone you know personally, or something you've heard people speak on. use that topic(s) to fuel your song. and STAY on topic when you're rapping. dont go off topic just to say the buzz words(shawty..., in the club, bottle of ....., my car...., my clothes....)
if you just have to make yet another party/club track. make it real, give me the entire scene. dont just say what the last rapper said. break it down from the moment you leave the house, hop in the whip, head down what street/fwy, did you scoop up some of your boys? or you one of those that role with a bunch of chicks cause you got it like that? then lets keep it 150, everybody cant be VIP status. someone has to stand in the Guy line and wait til the chicks go in then they let you in. somebody was on the guest list but the bouncer cant see your name. lets keep it 150. i need those club stories. then break down what you see in the club once you get in there. not just a hot shawty, and bottles at the bar. be more descriptive. paint a picture.
then hit us with a simplistic but hot hook. it better not be the same wack themesong hook you just heard 2 weeks prior.
-more story telling in general. you can tell stories with a simple but hot hook and have a great beat where people that listen casually wont even know you're telling a story. they will just love the hook, like that you're riding the beat, and like the beat itself. the rest of us will appreciate you taking the time to tell us something...anything.
-lets keep 180, its time to be more conscious, enough with the strip club raps. we've beat that dead horse to death and back to life again. its time to get back on that conscious tip. but do it in an organic way. if you a street dude, give me that street conscious (ice cube, jigga) , if you're a college student, or a guy that reads like crazy (give me that talib vibe, etc).
-last but not least, what happen to the funny rappers. not just the weed smoking rappers. but the funny rappers? the redman's, special K's (i got a man) of the genre. just make us laugh with real life stories.
