I think Nelly was brilliant and doesn't get enough props. That first album has some of the greatest pop rap singles of all time. I remember when "Ride Wit Me" came out. It sounded so fukking different from anything that was out. You knew it was pop off-top, but it was DOPE. When Nelly says he sold a gazillion records without cosigns, I believe him. That shyt came outta nowhere.
The album Country Grammar was complete trash outside of the 4 main singles. Nellyville had a few hot joints too.
He lost me with that Sweat/Suit shyt. To this day I haven't heard those albums. The singles were

OK fair enough. If you're talking emcee/singing skills, then yes you're right. There's no brilliance. I'm talking about his overall sound. How he and his producer came up with the material they did.

Country Grammar had a few decent songs on it, but I never bought that album and in those days I was buying multiple albums every week. I'd have been embarrassed for someone to see that in my collection. Lot of white bytches copped that record, that should tell you enough.
It's shyts on damn near everything today, but back then anyone with real taste wasn't fukking with that "uh ohhhhhhhhhh!!!"
