Negative stereotypes? I feel like that shyt goes both ways
Let’s not forget negative stereotypes of African booty scratchers, or spare chucker..musty smelling or street sweeper
Black Americans weren’t necessarily too kind to their African counterparts either
Most black Americans used “African booty scratcher” as elementary school insults against other ados kids… there was no actual real life stereotype connected to it. “Spear chucker” is a slur white people used against ADOS blacks.
Growing up.. there was no actual African stereotypes in the black community. The country we are in consistently reminded us of the stereotypes they had against us. Nobody was actually sitting around trying to imagine the negatives of Africans. Maybe because there was a famine in Somalia people thought “Africans” were poor, but that’s about it. Only as an adult and coming across many Africans through life did I even develop a mental image of the different people of Africa.
There was like one or two Africans in my elementary school, and they just looked black so there wasn’t really any different treatment. I wish I could go back and actually care about them being African and ask about their country/culture.
shyt, now that I think of it… I’ve never even heard my parents/grandparents/cousins/aunts/uncles even have a single conversation where the topic of African people was anything other than us being stripped us our roots and needing to regain some of the heritage that we lost. I haven’t heard a single negative African stereotype from ANY of my family members. I think the first time I heard bad shyt about Africans is when the internet started poppin in the late 90’s and Nigerian scammers became a thing.
Go ahead and tell me you never heard a single family member say anything negative about black Americans. Bet that shyt was a common topic growing up huh. That’s why you think we MUST have grown up on the same type of time.
