And not ever great rapper is meant to blow up. They arent always simultaneous.

To me the GOAT is Kool G Rap, and he was far from a superstar

yes, KGR is the GOAT lyricist to me, slightly above Ra with AZ, Nas, and Jay being in my top 5.

Nas been in the game for over 20 years and Paul Wall can get a better deal than that man..

Hell,EVEN Cormega takes QB on bus rides....

I have no issues with Nasir, but you cant be who you are and signing slave deals...

His business game needs work

I don't remember the exact amount but didnt Nas get $11 or $13 million for his def jam deal? I'm pretty sure Paul Wall and Cormega have never seen that kind of paper. I also haven't seen them get endorsements from the gap, Hennessy, or fila along with others I can't think of right now.

He's also a co-owner of guerrilla union which is involved with rock the bells and other tours

He ain't jay-z or diddy but trust he's living a lot better than 90% of rappers out there

Nothing but love for A, but he turned down a Roc-A-Fella deal at a time when he could've benefited from the buzz and momentum generated from that association. He ended up on Motown, and the rest is history...

One thing that messed him up was a damn near three year wait between his first and second album. We all know that is an eternity in the rap game to be waiting to drop an album. In all that time Jigga got hot Dmx blew up and Canibus was supposed to have next. nikkas probably had forgotten about Sosa by then. He should have gotten with a label known for Hip Hop after EMI shut down. Somewhere like Def Jam or Loud Records would have been perfect for him back then.

There was a misunderstanding over Firm production credits that strained AZ and Nas' relationship.

Am saying! its like because nas has this tag of being a "conscious mc," and doesnt do viral videos flossing, him n $ are suppossed to be polar opposites. Its funny how the youth is so easily manipulated by frontin ass rappers.

I was at an AZ concert a couple of months ago. Like his albums, it was poorly promoted and I had to spend like 20 mins tracking down the proper info to get the tickets. But once he came on stage, he had a superstar presence even to thi day. And so many classics, at least 10 of his joints or joints he was on used to get heavy play.

He has everything going for him, it really must've been the bad deal mixed with bad timing.

AZ actually did well with "Sugar Hill". The single went Gold, and although I think the album (Doe or Die) fell short of going Gold, it still moved enough units for him to be relevant. He could have become a moderately popular star if everything went his way.

But it didn't.

I think the problems were:

1. The Firm album was not very well received and, for whatever reason, it seems like Nas distanced himself from AZ after that project. It's always harder to blow up when you don't benefit from affiliations.

2. His second album, Pieces of a Man, went through lots of delays and was very poorly promoted. The first single was supposed to be "Hey AZ". But in between the time that it was recorded and Pieces of a Man finally came out, Mariah Carey released a song using the same sample. In the end, "Hey AZ" wasn't even included on the album.

3. You only get so many chances in the game, and I think after his second album flopped, everything had to go perfectly for him to make a comeback. He released S.O.S.A. independently in 2000 to get attention from major labels. But he made a poor choice in signing with Motown. His 2001 album 9 Lives was ok, but the best material had already been released on S.O.S.A. He came back the next year with Aziatic, perhaps his most acclaimed album, but he was on the wrong label and had been out of the spotlight for too long by then.
