He has wanted to cut entitlement programs for a long time. Did you forget the “grand bargain”? If it wasn’t for the Tea Party Caucus being a$$holes and pushing for deeper cuts, they would have passed cuts to entitlements.

1. Bernie got absolutely destroyed in the south. It's very difficult to make up for huge losses in delegates.
2. Bernie lost states that he was expected to win (Massachusetts, Minnesota, Maine)
3. Bernie's wins were by much more modest margin's than Biden's
These trends will continue.
So how on earth can Bernie make up the delegate gap?
Look at what happened on Super Tuesday:
1. Bernie got absolutely destroyed in the south. It's very difficult to make up for huge losses in delegates.
2. Bernie lost states that he was expected to win (Massachusetts, Minnesota, Maine)
3. Bernie's wins were by much more modest margin's than Biden's
These trends will continue.

This race is far from over. Even after bloody Tuesday, Biden is only winning by 60 delegates. Bernie was way behind Hillary at this point in 2016.
But you are right, he does need to win the states he won in 2016 post Super Tuesday to remain competitive.
