I don't see what's interesting about it but to indulge you, yes, in basketball, players are able to get extended rests on the bench during gameplay and the excessive timeouts by teams and media. Hockey only has 1 team timeout throughout the entire game. The way hockey substitutions work don't allow those types of breaks either. Hence the longer breaks between periods. It's also an opportunity to clean and fix the ice to allow optimal playyou got nba players who play for 40 minutes a game. you're telling me that hockey players need to rest for 40 minutes a game?:ohthatsintradesting:

I see where you're coming from, it's whateverhighest on ice time per game this season is 28:14 out of 60 minutes
while highest minutes per game in the nba is 39.5 out of 48 minutes
they could clean the ice quicker than 20 minutes. trim that shyt down to 15 minutes atleast. i went to a game for the first time in forever and they use 2 zamboneys now. there were a bunch of breaks for tv timeouts too.
