The whole "R&B Thug" thing started way before Chris.

Hell even Bobby Brown was known as "The Bad Boy of R&B".

But even the "R&B, Bad Boys", had "Boundaries".

Nowadays nothing is off the table, SMH!

Somewhere along the way Black American Music, shifted.

Both Hip Hop, and R&B started going down the path we are on now.

I remember when profanity was NOT something you would typically hear in an R&B song.
Now days, we got "Singers", singing the N-Word and Bytch this, and that.

The BAR IS LOW, REAL LOW!

The Kids don't know any better, because that is the "World" they were born into.

So "Dysfunctional" music is just "Music".
It started with... did Chris Brown perfect the formula? Perfect. I don't care who started it, did Chris Brown perfect it?

Ike Turner was smacking around Tina Turner, Ike is R&B... did Chris Brown perfect the formula... did he perfect the formula? Chris Brown? Was he the only soft R&B dude who's career was elevated after assaulting Rihanna? That is the formula. Did Chris Brown perfect it? Your quote to remind you of context:
R&B Dudes were looked at as "Soft".

A lot of Broads don't like "Soft Dudes".

The music adapted
:francis:

I want you to answer the question about Chris Brown and the formula of a soft R&B dude having edge and the broads liking him still. This is the formula. Did Chris Brown perfect the formula? His music adapted after Rihanna if you want a measure. His image changed after Rihanna, and he's seemed to embrace it and so have the broads. Did Chris Brown, not Bobby Brown or any other R&B artists before him, perfect the formula?

That is the question.

Sure Chris Brown "Perfected",
The "Non Soft" R&B Dude, image.

But I'd also argue that Chris Brown was not exactly perceived "As Extremely Soft" to begin with,
at least not as "Soft" as some other singers.

But the point of my original post, was that WAY BEFORE Chris Brown,
R&B Music was "Tending" towards the direction it is now.

I asked about Chris Brown because he is still relevant in R&B compared to the other R&B singer dudes he came out with. Doesn't matter if he was extremely soft, he got on when hip-hop and R&B merged so he had to have edge to stay relevant. We not talking about Mario, Omarion, Lloyd or any of them other dudes, they irrelevant to the point I'm making because they no longer relevant to R&B right now. Chris Brown is.
I knew what your point was, that is why I used "perfected". Because Chris Brown came after all them dudes before him and after Rihanna is still relevant.
Jodeci was the precursor tbh.
Ayo, I'm not talking about who was before but who did it best. It was a lot of precursors, did Chris Brown perfect it?

It's arguable since he's still relevant going on for about 20 years.

White people can’t sing R&B love songs so record companies phased that genre out.

Also skank culture got an entire generation of unloveable bytches out here.

A lot of these "Modern" younger male "R&B" singers, have definitely been inspired by Chris Brown.
