In hindsight do you agree with this?

Taking a step back, this entire generation, we did not see a PS5-only game from Guerilla, Sony Santa Monica or Naughty Dog, the last of which became a meme for its endless remasters of its Last of Us games. Naughty Dog has announced Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, but that may not be out until PS6 itself. We have no idea when either new Horizon or God of War games are coming from those studios, much less them branching into potentially new IPs instead of endless sequels. Sony purchased Bungie this generation for $3.6 billion, but it did little except drift on with Destiny 2 and hammer away at a game that seems on the verge of bombing, Marathon. And neither of those games are exclusive, much less PS5-exclusive.

It’s not like there was nothing to play, but true PS5 exclusives were few and far between, and it’s a situation where the most significant introduction of a new IP was Stellar Blade, not even a game from Sony directly, merely a deal it had secured. The same goes for Final Fantasy, where Square Enix seems to now be realizing locking themselves to PlayStation this tightly may be a sales mistake.

I feel like the pS5 JUST came out for some reason. I haven't seen a single game push it to it's limit yet. Seems to me that they are focusing more on pure hardware sales than software sales, they are operating off of reputation and clout. Every big exclusive they had is on Steam or Epic or any other number of storefronts.

I can admit that they were behind the big single player narrative games push, back when it seemed every company was trying to do live service or multiplayer, which failed many times (looking at Anthem and other games similar to that).

Right now Xbox (which I do not mind since it is an American company, although I have more personal nostalgia for Sony) is planning for the future. Leveraging Gamepass and purchasing studios like Bethesda and Obsidian while also still maintaining their market for multiplayer and encouraging cross platform and entertainment (meaning non gaming products) in general, seems like Microsoft wants the Xbox to be the hub for all entertainment, something that Sony has always been behind the ball on.

If Xbox can corner off the JRPG, CRPG, and immersive sim genres then Sony is going to have a major uphill battle. They are bigger in Japan but Xbox is gaining a foothold there too,

In closing I think they need to focus more on delivering great, exclusive single player content, with new IPs that are so unique and "good" that people have no choice but to purchase the PS.

Atlus figured out serving one master is stupid. Once Square Enix figures that out, Sony is going to have an issue.

Sony's brand recognition worldwide and most importantly quality of games is why they are where they are.

All these delusions of Xbox coming back are done. War is over.

Death Stranding On The Beach is out next week. Ghost of Yotei will be out in October.

The only thing that I'm jealous of Xbox of, is their ability to pump out AA titles with regularity.

Sony Was Right To Turn Down EA's Video Game Subscription Plan [Update]
===================================================================================================

Soon, Xbox One gamers will be able to pay $5 a month for a Netflix -like subscription to EA games. The EA Access program is coming exclusively to Xbox One because Sony turned down the idea, stating that the company doesn’t think “asking our fans to pay an additional $5 a month for this EA-specific program represents good value to the PlayStation gamer.”

My colleague Paul Tassi argues that this “seems pretty disingenuous and petty from Sony” since the subscription is entirely optional.
