Why would they try their hand at live services so aggressively if they supposedly making so much money with hardware and software sales though?

Because instead of making 30% from Genshin, Wuthering Waves and Fortnite, Sony want 100% of the money.

What's confusing?
The "back half of the gen" for this gen started around the second half of 2023 which gave us Spider-man 2, HD2, FFVII Rebirth, Stellar Blade, Astro Bot and we got DS2 end of the month with Yotei later this year. Next year is obviously stacked. People looking for "gotchas!" that aren't even there.

They really fukked up focusing on all those GAAS games and then canceling most of them. Only one I was looking forward to was The Last of Us and I just wanted an updated Factions with TLoU 2 combat. Plus games costing 100 of millions and taking 5-7 years to release is crazy. I am glad we still got bangers in double and triple A titles though.

Nah Sony just playing 4D chess, you see all the devs that got their games canceled are now working on PS6 games so that they’ll have the biggest launch lineup in console history!

Single player games bring people to the platform. Once people are there, they buy COD with the skins, 2K and VC, Fortnite with their vbucks, EA with UT etc. Every transaction Sony gets their 20-30% without investing anything. That's where the money is.

Yea, but this increasingly has nothing to do with exclusive games, which is why sony is now making very few of their games exclusive.

At some point people are gonna have to come to terms with the fact that the things that used to drive the industry(console wars) are just not that important anymore

You call it “greed”….in reality it’s “survival”

If sony dont get some gaas popping soon its gonna be really hard to justify their investment in gaming software.
