That doesn't sound too bad.
Our rent went up by $400 from last year.
$2,300 for 2 bedroom 2 baths, good amenities but still not totally worth it.
Don't want to compromise/have less amenities though so here we are.

They always charge rent to proportion of the income people make

A bubble will burst, and they will start lowering housing and construction restrictions, allowing people to live in houses/buildings that would normally be condemned. At least that's what they should do if they can't go after the wealthy buying up all of the property, but the democrats aren't going to give because it wouldn't be humane, and the republicans wont alllow us to go after the wealthy buying up all the property.
They will also start building shoebox apartments like China, not to the same extreme, but yeah.

Gotta remember that while that's cheap to us, some people would scrape by trying to keep it.
As far as OP, I don't know, but it feels like we're approaching a breaking point. Something has to give.

Stop being broke.
Chicago area but not downtown, and that's just rent no utilities (electricity, gas, water, trash etc is separate) sooo yeah.
Finishing school = getting higher paying job and probably similar/better standard of living is the goal.
