SZA, Sevyn and MJB dropped some of the most critically acclaimed albums this year. Yet none of them have scanned 200k yet.

So the problem is definitely NOT r&b being boring or stale or whatever the fukk else. The quality is still there. The inventiveness is still there. Black r&b artists just don't have a budget these days to promote their shyt. Labels aren't pushing it like they should be. There's no reason why Adele should be getting play on every format but Black artists are relegated to just urban. FOH.

Commercially r&b is at an all time low that's why public perception is that it's a dead genre.

Chris`s decline is not only telling on an individual base, but on a larger scale as well because he's kind of been the face of the genre for a good 5 years based on public perception.

Justin & Adele sell so well because the media cherish them as the crown jewels. They can leave for a good 4-5 years & they'll still sell like they never left.

We don't support "real r&b", but we complain about there being a lack thereof.

I knew r&b was going through a heavy crisis when the R&B GOAT Usher couldn't even get his album to sell.:smh:

My drive to work is 15 mins, tops. I usually just have the radio on. There's a station that doesn't play the garbage rap/trap r&b.

I heard this song and thought it was new, but it's a lil over a year old

You would never hear this on top 40 radio or even popular R&B stations.

I'd much rather hear this than hear about Chris Brown VVS'n his wrist:camby:

Fans don’t support like they’re suppose to.

Culture vultures, sheep, and hype beasts do tho.

The love is gone man. Ain't no more real nikkas in the studio that can really sing crying they eyes out begging they woman to come back. The best rnb comes from pain and dispair.

I don’t know what nikkas are talking about, this year has been one of the best years for r&b! Sampha & SZA prolly put out my favorite albums of the year, not to mention Nai Palm, Brent Faiyaz,Daniel Caesar...& that’s just within the last couple of weeks.

Anyone complaining about r&b really needs to get off the bullshyt.

The Land That Time Forgot
There isn't a main reason, but the arrival in the late 80s and early 90s of the crack trade and the
transformation of Hip Hop into drug dealer, 9-millimeter Glock and stripper pole commercial rap,
affected core black culture.

The incredible soul, the spirit, the emotion of our music -- fueled by r&b's roots from the black church --
got wiped away, and has largely been absent for over 20 years.

The Land That Time Forgot
When hip hop started influencing r&b on a large scale around the mid 90s. And then r&b itself started becoming infiltrated by white people over black artists.

Whitney was soulfu,l but her music wasn't, which began the drift.

But the Queen of sapping the soul out of what was perceived to be traditionally soulful
r&b, and "translating" it to non-black audiences for pop stardom purposes?

The decline accelerated with The Rainbow.

r&b was huge throughout the 90’s and early 2000’s, so 20 years is a reach lol
Singers and producers even today have church roots
