A classic is something that leaves an instant and infinite impact
I disagree with instant. Over time, many works of art were not seen as classic right out the gate but as time passed they were.

...and the opposite is true. There are some albums that had an instant impact, but were seen as just alright over time. Case in point:
Wu-Tang Forever
And lol @ The Cool being a classic.
