For me I know that all I want in my life is happiness, positivity and loved ones so to get that I have to put that out into the world. And honestly that's all I want to bring into other peoples lives as well anyway. Because I'm a firm believer that as a man I should only add happiness to the lives of the people that I meet and that I should only make the lives of the people I care for easier.

I'm not looking to get over on people or to take advantage of anybody or use women. I don't walk around with my chest poked out like a tough guy because I have no interest in being a bully. I believe that I have to work for the things that I want and that I have to go get the things I feel are mine. I don't wait for other people to do things for me and I don't feel comfortable taking anything from anybody without paying it back. I feel like a a man should provide and protect for his loved ones. He should keep his word and be loyal to his loved ones. He should be kind and generous to everybody. He shouldn't use or live off women. He should take care of all his responsibilities. He should always be trying to progress and better himself in every aspect of life.

A man should work for his community and be a role model. Especially in the black community he should be a example to these young boys how a man properly carries himself and when he does that he will beloved by his community. That's all we really want anyway. Honestly half of the dangerous life choices men make could be avoid if we got that love from out community.

Finally a man should be himself no matter what and to me that is the true definition of being masculine when you can determine your own life without trying to be what other people want you to be. Me as example I'm kind, compassionate, sweet, loyal, sincere and honorable. I don't want to be anything else cause thats what makes me happy. Half these dudes out here trying to be rapper clones and follow after other men like children. That's not being a man. They dress how these dudes tell them too and do the drugs they tell them too. That is weak to me do things because you want to not because you trying to impress other men with a bullshyt fake lifestyle.

What is being a man to you brehs? This is just what it means to me.

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,
And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;
If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: ‘Hold on!’

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!

This is exactly why I laugh at the idea of masculinity and always ask men here to define it. Both men AND women should be themselves no matter what, right? Unless we're suggesting that women don't have to be themselves and should live their lives based on what others want them to be.

Good thread, breh. I would define being a man, a good man, as simply being willing to seek your own happiness/satisfaction/ through positive means while being supportive of those who seek to do the same.

Men who don't cry have to compensate for it somehow and it's usually in very unhealthy ways. Drugs, alcohol, psychological abuse to name a few, if you have to cry, regroup and then refocus, there's nothing "feminine" about that.

I'm just speaking as a man because thats what I am. I women can be whatever they want to be also but I don't know their experience so I can't really speak for them in this way.

Taking care of my family and priorities, working hard, completing goals that I set out for myself. Being who I want to be as I see fit without letting the judgment of others affect me.
Not giving up no matter how hard life can become.
