What is the reason behind France's military presence in Africa?

It depends. In its current form, yes. But Germany and Northern Europe countries can make their own EU without France.

They need resources. If they didn't need Africa like that, they would have never colonized in the first place. They certainly wouldn't be scrambling for Africa now.

Yep I'm talking about the City. What I wanted to say was that the UK is first and foremost a financial powerhouse.

A lot of African countries have the resources that would can result in economic prosperity, such resources being cocoa (Ivory Coast), diamonds copper gold oil uranium (RDC), uranium (Niger), just to name a few (Richest African countries in terms of natural resources).

The problem is that the western powers including China are eating off the continent leaving folks starved in poverty. Until certain politicians come to realization, they'll continue to eat.
