The desktop support guy doesn't make the same as the database administrator.

The desktop support guy with a degree could make much less than the really smart high school drop out who knows SQL like a second language.

Friend of mine works for Microsoft and he just became a "Partner" recently with the company.

He did not go to college or any technical school. He is probably just a rare talent but the sky is definitely the limit.

Within a company (not self employed)

$350k is highest ive seen or heard of it was for a security and networking expert that needed to work internationally, it didnt included covered expenses or benefits

Degree is never as important as skillset experience in IT so the no degree/associates/bachelors doesnt matter
