As a collector of board games and someone deep in the hobby, i wont do too much in this thread.

Of the three options, all of them are WOAT-tier tbh. Monopoly being the least WOAT tho.

Share what you know with us - give us some insight into board games

It's a hobby that has seen dramatic growth in popularity over the past 10-ish years.

There is a whole world out there of games. Different types of games. Games that are fun and easy. Games that are complex and require a lot of time and rule-reading. The easiest way to enter the hobby, to me, is to find a game outside of the ones you played as a kid and buy it. Great games that are a good entry into the hobby:

1. Wingspan
2. Dead of Winter
3. Azul
4. Pandemic
5. Patchwork

You can't go wrong with those 5. They"re classics. Easy to learn and good for casual groups. Oh, and they can all be bought at Wal-Mart, Target, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, etc.

As for me, I primarily buy my games through crowdfunding campaigns on Kickstarter and Gamefound. That's where the real (and expensive) shyt is. That's where you get games before they ever see a store shelf. If they ever see a store shelf. You have to have a good amount of patience for it tho. Some games can take a year+ to reach your doorstep. But that is a rabbithole in and of itself.

The Board Game community is a good community. No weird shyt if you stay off of BoardGameGeek forums.

Feel free to ask any questions! I wish there were more folks into board/tabletop games on TheColi.

I appreciate this šŸ™ŒšŸ¾

That’s what I love about this board. You can learn so many things in one place.

The collabs and mashups are dope too.

Whether you like the game, or the characters/IP it's a good hook to get someone started or playing.

I never played munchkin until someone was like "it's ninja turtles" I was like ":yeshrug:"

Since then I've played tons of munchkin and not just the ninja turtles one.

You can Google something you like, star wars, Nintendo, harry potter, marvel then add a game (chess, monopoly, clue, sorry/trouble) and find whatever you are interested with a game or new game.

No one knows how to play monopoly the correct way.

I think that was the intent. Present us with rules, knowing eventually most people wouldn't follow them or would just forget them. You can use Monopoly to dig deep into a person's motivations: do they wanna win at all costs or do they just not gaf? How long will it take a nicca to put roach motels on Baltic Ave? Noticing when ppl miscount their landing spots

Monopoly might be THEE GOAT game

risk is probably the worst game I've ever seen, mainly because I don't know how to play it to this day

Candyland is a classic. However, I can understand why adults may not like it much because it's very kiddish in comparison to, say, Monopoly, which has a very sophisticated, grown-up vibe to its gameplay.

Monopoly is a classic, too; GOAT, perhaps, but I think it's a little overrated.

I always found Sorry to be a little difficult to understand as a kid and even as an adult.

Life is pretty good, feels like a lesser version of Monopoly. Outta the three board games OP mentioned, I'm going to go with Sorry being the worst of the three.

Monopoly is the arguable GOAT.

I might argue the game of Life not because it a bad game per se, it's just a little too real :mjlol:

I was playing sorry with my nieces and nephews and that shyt is low-key complicated.
