The sci fi channel was the only channel that my dad watched when he was home. I grew up watching that, Star Trek, Firefly, Buffy, Battlestar: Galactica, X-files, Twilight Zone. Movies like Blade Runner, The Fly, Species, Tremors, Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind, Gattica, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and Monster Movies.
My grandparents also had a basement full of comic books.
Sci-Fi is popular. I just feel like it's got its own little community and fan base that makes it feel more intimate.

How are you not locked down yet

and any GTA. But I have other hobbies too. If you are putting video games before people and real life, that may be a problem.

that's sad. I don't know if it's technically sci-fi but the last/best movie I saw in theaters was that Intergallactic movie with Matthew McConaughey. Science is cool.

I was looking for the roaming type of environment but it just had too much reading for me.
